About This Pub
You know, chatting about h-bar feels like reminiscing over a reliable old mate who's still got plenty going for them but has changed a bit over time. From what I've gathered, it's this welcoming spot right in the heart of South Kensington, perfect for grabbing some excellent food – think high-quality Indian dishes or pub classics – at prices that won't sting too much in pricey London. The atmosphere can be lively, especially with those big screens showing sports and events, making it a fun place to catch up with friends over a few drinks. It's got that student energy, which is great if you're part of the Imperial crowd, but it might feel a touch exclusive if you're not. On the flip side, it does seem like it's evolved from a buzzing bar into more of a canteen-style setup, and with limited opening hours and no fresh reviews lately, it might not be the go-to for a spontaneous evening. Still, if you're after good value and a relaxed spot to unwind, it's worth checking out – just keep in mind it could get crowded on busier nights and isn't open every day of the week.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food here is top-notch, with excellent quality and a great variety, especially if you're into Indian cuisine or pub-style grub – it's perfect for a satisfying meal with mates.
-
Prices are really reasonable for London, making it an affordable spot to grab drinks and eats without breaking the bank.
-
There's plenty of space for groups, whether you're settling in for a chat or watching events on the large screens, and it has a lively atmosphere that's ideal for students looking for a good vibe.
-
The staff come across as friendly and efficient, adding to that welcoming feel when you're popping in for a drink or a bite.
Cons
-
It seems like the place has shifted from being a proper bar to more of a canteen or Indian restaurant, which might disappoint if you're after a traditional pub experience.
-
Operating hours are a bit limited, typically from late afternoon till evening and not open every day, so it could be tricky to catch if you're planning a spontaneous night out.
-
With no recent reviews, it feels like things might have quietened down, and it's mainly geared towards Imperial College students, so it could come across as a tad exclusive for outsiders.
-
Some folks have mentioned it gets packed on certain nights, like Fridays, which might make it less relaxing if you're not up for a crowd.

Hbar is a canteen for Postgraduate Students at Imperial College. It used to be a bar, but now it has changed to an Indian Restaurant. The food is of excellent quality and there is plenty of space to share a nice meal with your friends.

I really recommend it to all imperial college students.Satisfying and filling food of a good quality. The service is above average and very good prices for London. Burgers and tapas choices i would recommend visited twice so far and have experienced consistently good experiences
Excellent food! Lively atmosphere
This is a nice student bar. There's plenty of space for both large and small groups. The drinks are pretty cheap and the appetizers are delicious. It was not very loud when I was there, so it was nice for working on a group project.
First off there is 2 separate venue here. Lunch 12-14 are served in a menu style, no alcohol served, while in the evenings you can order at the bar from a different pub-style menu. I like both food, drink selection is good for a college bar and the staff is great. Friday nights are packed but the service is quick .
