About This Pub

Ah, The Gloucester Arms – it's one of those classic London pubs that just draws you in with its 19th-century charm and wood-panelled walls, making you feel right at home from the moment you step inside. I have to say, the food really shines here; the fish and chips are an absolute winner, all savoury and well-balanced without being too heavy, and it's clear why folks rave about it for a relaxed meal. Pair that with a cracking selection of British ales and wines, and you've got a great spot for catching up with friends or tuning into live sports like the Premier League or major events – the screens and atmosphere make it buzz with excitement. The staff are genuinely lovely, always on hand with a smile and efficient service that keeps things flowing smoothly. On the downside, though, I've heard a few grumbles about some dishes not quite hitting the mark, like chips that could do with a bit more time in the fryer, and it's a shame they've axed a few old favourites from the menu, which might leave you wanting more variety. Plus, the toilets aren't always up to scratch, which can put a slight dampener on an otherwise enjoyable visit. All in all, it's a solid choice for a pint and a bite in a historic setting, but keeping an eye on those finer details would make it even better – definitely worth popping in if you're nearby, just go in with realistic expectations for a balanced experience.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The fish and chips are spot on – proper tasty and not overly salty, making it a must-try if you're in the area.
  • Service is warm and attentive, with staff who are quick and friendly, really adding to that cosy pub feel.
  • It's a fantastic spot for watching live sports, with Sky and TNT Sports on offer, perfect for catching the big games.
  • The atmosphere is welcoming and family-friendly, ideal for a relaxed get-together with a good selection of beers and cask ales.
  • Being a historic, dog-friendly pub with a traditional wood-panelled interior gives it that authentic British charm.
Cons
  • Some dishes, like the chips, might not be cooked to perfection every time, leaving a bit to be desired.
  • A few favourites have been dropped from the menu, such as bangers and mash, which could disappoint if you're after classics.
  • The facilities, particularly the toilets, need a bit more attention to keep everything up to standard.

Came back after 40 years and I had too much expectation. First of all the food was ok. Fish was nice. Not a heavy breading. Chips needed more cooking on multiple plates. Really missed their bangers and mash apparently dropped from the menu a few years ago. Service was very good but the toilet needed some help.

It was absolutely amazing to find this local pub! We had a beautiful time with my family and the service was super friendly and quick! I definitely recommend this venue for everyone who want a relaxing time and lovely food to come with it! And of course I love the selection of beers and cask ales!

Seriously one of the best fish and chips I’ve ever had. Not too salty. If you’re in the area, this is a must. Also a good spot to catch the game at!

I had a fish and chips which was outstandingly savory. The servers were friendly and attentive, and there was generally a really nice vibe. Will come visit again!
