About This Pub
Ah, Green Oak Farm in Ellesmere Port – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a reliable go-to for a good feed without fuss. I've got to say, the carvery roasts are an absolute winner; think massive plates piled high with crispy Yorkshires, roasted spuds, and a heap of veg, all for a price that won't dent your wallet. It's especially lovely for a Sunday get-together, and the staff are just brilliant – always up for a chat and quick to help out, like sorting a doggy bag if you're taking some home. Plus, with perks like easy parking, WiFi, and an indoor play area, it's spot on for families or anyone wanting a comfortable vibe. On the flip side, though, it's not all perfect roses; some reviews mention the breakfast or certain dishes falling a bit flat, like overcooked bits or truly awful tea and coffee that could put a damper on things. Still, with an overall rating hovering around 4.2, it's clear most folks leave happy, and I'd reckon it's worth a visit if you're in the area – just keep expectations realistic and maybe skip the brews if you're fussy about them. All in all, it's a solid choice for a casual catch-up over some no-nonsense grub.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The carvery and roasts are spot on – massive portions with loads of veggies and options like gammon or mixed grills, making it a brilliant choice for a hearty meal without breaking the bank.
-
Prices are really affordable, so you get great value for your money, especially for breakfast or a full Sunday dinner.
-
Staff are super helpful and cheery; they go out of their way to make you feel welcome, like packing up doggy bags if needed.
-
It's family-friendly with facilities like disabled access, a car park, WiFi, and even an indoor play area, perfect for popping in with the little ones.
-
Wide selection of food, from freshly baked cakes and breakfast choices to tasty classics, so there's something for everyone.
Cons
-
Some dishes can be hit or miss with quality – like overcooked burgers or disappointing tea and coffee that taste more like dishwater.
-
Breakfast might not be the freshest compared to other spots; a few folks mentioned it's not quite as good as rivals in the area.
-
Portions are generous, but that doesn't always save the day if the food's not up to scratch, leaving you a bit underwhelmed at times.
-
It can get busy, which might mean relying on apps for ordering, and that's not everyone's cup of tea if things don't go smoothly.

Myself and my friends had a lovely roast there yesterday. It was a cheap price, but you still get loads, and so many different types of veg! Michael the assistant manager was so helpful and cheery, he couldn’t do enough for us. Packing up a doggy box for my friends dogs as she couldn’t finish her food.
It was lovely and quiet, which I liked. I don’t think I would enjoy it so much on a busy day. Well done Michael! U get 5 stars for everything!
We ordered an amazing Sunday roast that came with all the trimmings. I chose gammon. Mine was a kids portion and still huge, with potatoes done three ways (roasted, boiled and mashed) cauliflower, carrots, broccoli, sprouts, my partner's roast parsnips as he's not a fan of them, a huge and crispy Yorkshire pudding, and stuffing. Absolutely delicious, prepared quickly and definitely plenty for your money. We'll order it again.
Called in for an early dinner before going out. Pub was quite busy so we decided to order on the app. My partner had the beanburger which was sadly overcooked and very crispy! I had the mixed grill which was fine. We decided to have a dessert as we were still quite hungry. We selected the Giant eclair and the chocolate fudge cake. Wow! They are absolutely huge and really tasty. Actually struggled to finish them! Just a side note to say the member of staff who brought our food out was lovely. Extremely helpful and polite :)
3/5 for breakfast, it's nice to choose your own and have as much as you want but the food quality could be better. For the same money the breakfast at Chocks Away in Broughton is far better and freshly cooked.
All good nice breakfast for the price and good selection. The tea and coffee option was so bad in quality that I can only advise to avoid. Dish water coffee and chicken soup tea is the only way to describe it . Good service
