About This Pub

Ah, the Golden Lion – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local haunt in Wolverhampton, where you can pop in for a chat and a pint without any fuss. I have to say, what really stands out is the warm, inviting vibe; it's got that comfortable seating and friendly buzz that makes you want to settle in for the afternoon. The breakfasts are a highlight – think sausages, bacon, and black pudding that's spot on, especially with the unlimited toast and coffee deal that offers brilliant value. And if you're into sports, it's brilliant for watching the big games with a crowd of fellow fans, all cheering together over a well-poured Guinness or a smooth Marston's. On the flip side, though, prices can catch you off guard; those soft drinks adding up quickly might make you think twice, and some folks have mentioned the food not always being up to scratch, like dry bread or less-than-tasty sausages that don't quite live up to the hype. Overall, it's a solid choice for a relaxed get-together, but I'd suggest going in with realistic expectations – it's got plenty of charm, but like any pub, it's not perfect. If you're in the area, give it a try and see for yourself; you might just find your new favourite spot for match days or a casual brekkie.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is just lovely – it's warm, welcoming, and perfect for catching up with mates over a pint.
  • They've got cracking value on breakfasts, with unlimited toast and coffee that make it a real bargain for a hearty start to the day.
  • It's a top spot for sports fans, showing the latest matches on Sky Sports and TNT, so you can cheer on your team with the crowd.
  • The bar staff are friendly and efficient, always ready with a smile and a good recommendation for drinks.
  • Pints like Guinness and Marston's smooth go down a treat, and the pub keeps things clean and comfortable for a relaxed visit.
Cons
  • Drinks can be a bit steep – like those cokes that left one person shocked at nearly £7, which feels a tad over the top.
  • Some food items don't quite hit the mark, with complaints about dry bread and tough sausages that might put you off ordering.
  • It's a shame if you're popping in for a quick bite, as the quality can vary and isn't always as reliable as you'd hope.
  • With the pub sometimes listed as closed, it might be worth double-checking the hours to avoid any disappointment on your way over.

We've been for a few breakfasts including this morning and couple afternoon visits. The breakfasts with unlimited toast and coffee is hard to beat on value and between the sausages, bacon and black pudding (all delicious) damned hard to beat of quality. A beautiful pint of Guinness, the bar staff are always friendly and helpful, standard pub prices not as cheap as some places but better than others. Nice outdoor area with seating and activities for kids. Good local pub.

Came here for breakfast and a drink, for two cokes was nearly £7😱 RIDICULOUS PRICE! Bread was dry no butter nothing! Sausages were tough and tasteless, i would not come back for breakfast.

The Golden Lion is a charming pub that perfectly blends traditional charm with a vibrant atmosphere. Located in a convenient spot, it's a great place to unwind after a long day. The interior is warm and inviting, and comfortable seating. It strikes a balance between a lively social hub and a cozy retreat. The selection of beers is impressive, showcasing local brews alongside popular favorites. The cocktails are well-crafted, and the staff is knowledgeable about their offerings. The menu offers a range of nepalese and Indian classics, from fish and chips to burgers. The dishes are well-prepared and generously portioned, making it a solid choice for a meal. The staff at the Golden Lion are friendly and attentive, ensuring that customers feel welcome. Service is typically prompt, even during busy hours. Whether you’re stopping by for a casual drink, a meal with friends, or to catch a game, the Golden Lion delivers a satisfying pub experience. It’s definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.

Had a decent pint from here. Didn't try the food so can't really comment about that. The service was good from the bar staff and the place is generally kept quite clean. Would like to come back and try the food. Had the Marston's smooth and it was generally quite nice and went down easy.
