About This Pub
Ah, the Golden Eagle – it's one of those places that just feels like a hidden gem in Chester, you know? From the reviews, it sounds like they've nailed the food side of things, with people going on about the generous portions of Sunday roasts and those steak nights that are worth every penny, all without breaking the bank. The staff come across as genuinely lovely, always up for a chat and making sure everything runs smoothly, which really adds to that homely feel. And let's not forget the quirky vintage elements dotted around, like an old record player, that give it a unique charm and make it stand out from the crowd. On the flip side, it's a bit off the beaten path, so you might need to know your way around to find it, and it does tend to be quieter at times, which is brilliant if you're after a peaceful pint or meal, but perhaps not ideal for those seeking a more energetic vibe. All in all, it's a solid choice if you're looking for good, honest grub and a friendly welcome – I'd say give it a go if you're in the area.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food is absolutely spot on – folks are raving about the hearty Sunday lunches, juicy steaks, and burgers that feel like proper home-cooked meals, all at a fair price.
-
The staff are a delight, always friendly and chatty, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
-
It's got that charming vintage vibe with little touches like record players and old motorbikes, which really add to the cosy, welcoming atmosphere.
-
Great value overall, whether you're popping in for a meal or staying overnight, with comfortable rooms and tasty breakfasts that leave you satisfied.
Cons
-
It's a tad tucked away in Chester, so if you're not familiar with the area, you might have to hunt it down a bit.
-
It can be on the quieter side, especially at certain times, which is lovely for a relaxed catch-up but might not suit if you're after a more lively buzz.

Great Sunday lunch, cheap, great portion size and proper home cooked. Lovely staff, really friendly and chatty. Was pretty quiet (which I prefer) but was sunny outside and lunchtime.
We went on a Tuesday for steak & burger night. Worth absolutely every penny, steak was genuinely one of the best I've ever had and my husbands burger was equally as good.
We loved our stay at the Golden Eagle. We arrived early about 11 am and were allowed to checkin early by the lovely lady. The room is very beautiful with a vintage record player aswell. The entire staff was very helpful and the breakfast was tasty aswell. We checked out and left our bags as we had bus to catch at midnight. They kept our luggage safely while we went out and returned. We waited till 11:30pm in the pub area. The guys there were so helpful. Overall fantastic stay would definetely recommend and return sometime.
Haven't visited the Eagle in years. Guessing it has been refitted and to a very high standard. Its one of those Chester pubs that is tucked away and you need to know where it is. Definitely worth a visit lived the old motorbike in there as well.
Stayed here for one night and had breakfast. Was absolutely too notch. Cool vintage room with very comfy bed and a lovely breakfast with good service the morning after. Only cost us £110
