About This Pub

Ah, O'Neill's Oxford – it's one of those places that just pulls you in with its warm Irish welcome, like stepping into a cosy corner of the Emerald Isle right in the middle of Oxford. From what I've gathered from folks' experiences, the staff are the real stars here; they're knowledgeable, smiley, and go out of their way to make sure you're having a top time, whether it's sorting out a table or recommending a drink. The atmosphere is brilliant too – think flags, blue lights, and music that gets the energy up, especially in the evenings, making it ideal for catching a big match or just unwinding with mates. The food holds its own as well; that platter and fish and chips come highly praised, though it's not flawless – you might find something like a steak that's a tad overdone, but overall, it's hearty and satisfying. It's got that perfect pub balance of being lively without being overwhelming, and with drinks offers and events on tap, it's easy to see why it's a go-to spot. If you're heading out for a bite or a bevvy, I'd say give it a try – it's got the craic in spades, but just keep in mind those little niggles like menu mix-ups if you pop in early. All in all, it's a solid choice for a memorable night out, with the good bits far outweighing the minor downsides.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are absolutely brilliant – always welcoming and make you feel right at home, like chatting with old mates.
  • The atmosphere is spot on, with lively music, great vibes, and plenty of live sport to get everyone buzzing.
  • Food and drinks are a real treat; think tasty platters, solid fish and chips, and a good selection of ciders and beers to keep things flowing.
  • It's versatile for any occasion, whether you're popping in for a quick lunch, watching a big match, or enjoying a night out in the heart of Oxford.
Cons
  • Food can have the odd slip-up, like a steak that's a bit overcooked, so it might not always hit the mark perfectly.
  • Early visits might confuse things with the breakfast menu taking centre stage, meaning you have to ask for other options.

I am so happy that we decided to come to O’Neills. We were apprehensive about the stories we heard about the platter. But Madison reassured us it was both amazing and tasty. And Madison is not a liar. What a place. What a platter. And what an experience. Five stars.

This was a fantastic venue for drinking, adorned by flags and blue lights! The atmosphere is really good as music is played during the evenings, counter is well laid out too. I had one of the different ciders available, table has a classic smoothness and able to be seated away from crowds!

Came in on 26/04 and had a fantastic time. Madison was fantastic and made us feel welcomed and was very knowledgeable. Eamon is a fantastic general manager and it is so refreshing to walk into a pub and see a smiley face. Pete (the door staff) was amazing and made us all feel safe throughout our visit.

Stopped by for lunch and had a great experience. The girl who served me I think her name was Madison, who was really polite and attentive—made sure everything was spot on without being pushy. Food came out quickly and although the steak was a tad overcooked, it was great. Nice to see friendly service that feels genuine. Would happily come back.

Fish and chips was fantastic. If you come early the qe menu only shows breakfast menu but you can order from the bartender. Warhammer store next to the pub is a must visit for collectors.
