About This Pub

Ah, George & Dragon – it's one of those local pubs that really hits the spot for a good Sunday lunch or a family celebration, isn't it? From the reviews, it sounds like they've nailed the carvery; folks are raving about how it's miles better than the usual chain options, feeling just like a warm, home-cooked meal. Plus, it's brilliant for hosting parties – affordable and with a buzzing atmosphere that makes everything feel special. But, let's be honest, it's not all perfect; there have been a few grumbles about the service being a bit frosty or unreliable, like mix-ups with bookings that cost time and money, or even some dodgy facilities that leave you wishing for better. Overall, if you're up for a solid pint and a meal in Stanford-le-Hope, it's worth a go, but maybe pop in on a quiet day to avoid any potential hiccups – that way, you can enjoy the best bits without the surprises.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The Sunday carvery is absolutely brilliant – it's like a proper home-cooked roast, and it's even better than some of the big chains out there.
  • It's a great venue for special occasions, like birthdays or parties; the atmosphere really comes alive, and it's surprisingly affordable.
  • With its welcoming vibe and decent prices, it's a reliable spot for a relaxed get-together with friends or family.
Cons
  • Service can be hit or miss, with some reports of unfriendly staff and booking mishaps that leave you out of pocket and frustrated.
  • A few visitors have mentioned grubby facilities, like missing loo roll or unpleasant smells, which can really put a dampener on things.
  • There are occasional odd vibes or disappointing experiences, such as bad coffee or unreliable arrangements, making it feel unreliable at times.

Popped in for a Sunday Carvery, and they smashed it! Was by far the best carvery I've had, even the 'specialists' Toby can't compete. Was like having a home cooked Sunday roast! Right on our doorstep, so will be making this a regular thing now!

I walked in and was dead eyed by a frosty barmaid, I asked For 2 coffees they were disgusting... No loo roll in toilet... Wierd vibe, asn and the smell of rank drains was so off putting I just paid and left after five minutes. Horrible place, Nasty. I wont be returning.
