About This Pub

Ah, the Gardeners Arms – it's one of those proper local spots in Baguley that really captures the heart of a traditional pub. From what I've gathered chatting about it, the place has this lovely community feel where everyone seems to know each other, and the staff are often spot on with their friendly service, making you feel right at ease. The beers are a real highlight, with Robinsons brews that go down a treat, and there's always something fun going on, like darts or quiz nights, which keeps the energy up without it feeling overwhelming. The beer garden is a absolute gem for sunnier days, and perks like being dog-friendly and having free parking make it dead handy for a casual get-together. On the flip side, though, there have been a few tales of less than stellar service from certain staff members, especially if you're not from around there, which could put a dampener on things. Plus, with no food available, you might find yourself nipping out for a snack, and it can get a bit rowdy on weekends with the live music. All in all, it's a solid choice for a relaxed evening if you're after good company and a pint, but keep in mind it might not suit everyone for a quiet night in.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff and locals are generally warm and welcoming, making it easy to feel at home right away
  • A cracking selection of Robinsons beers, with options like Unicorn that hit the spot
  • Plenty of entertainment on offer, from darts on Mondays to quizzes and bingo, keeping things lively all week
  • Spacious beer garden and outdoor areas, perfect for enjoying a pint in the fresh air, especially near Wythenshawe Park
  • Family-friendly vibe with free parking, dog-friendly policies, and even EV charging nearby, adding to the convenience
  • Clean and well-maintained facilities, including the toilets, which always make a difference after a few drinks
  • Ideally located next to a tram stop, making it a breeze to pop in for a quick meet-up with mates
Cons
  • Some staff can be offhand or rude at times, as mentioned in a few accounts, which might spoil the experience for newcomers
  • No food on offer, so you'll have to head elsewhere if you're after a bite to eat with your pint
  • It can get a bit noisy with bands or events on Friday and Saturday nights, making it tricky for a quiet chat
  • The community focus means it might feel a tad cliquey if you're not a regular, potentially leaving visitors out

I live near the pub but this was my first visit. Really friendly staff and customers, seemed to know each other. They don’t do food as far as I could see. The decor was nice and colours on trend, the toilets were decent and clean. Would definitely go again and maybe try again in the summer. I believe they have beer garden. Quite near Wythenshawe park so a walk and a pint, not a bad idea.

I would give 5*but the blond waitress with long hair-dressed all in cream colour?!She needs to change her job.She ignored us (she noticed we were foreigners)when she handed us drinks. I thanked she didn't say a word, just turned around with a miserable face.As soon as"locals" appeared, she greeted them with a smile, tapping their shoulders-even drinking with them.Only one person came at that time, and we were first, then the other four came..she served all the people except us.Then her colleague noticed after15min so she quickly tried to save the situation. Well, what can I say?We were not welcome.I had a friend from Prague with me,so he found it rude. They would never do it to British people in Prague .You can't buy intelligence. But we have to praise a VERY GOOD SINGER who kept people entertained; he had an amazing voice, the music was 70s & 80s we loved him.

Ic and Flic spotted this locals / community pub as we went by on the tram. Spotted the Robinson's sign so decided to get off and give it a go. Had a good pint of Unicorn. Old Tom was being pulled through.(Tomorrow is Old Tom Day..a special Winter only brew.) The third handpump was empty on this visit. The pub has been opened up to a one room main venue with a small stage for live music. A second games room off behind the bar. There is a large rear beer garden. Handy for tram and bus. Great music playing..if a little loud for lunchtime. Butties on sale. No TV's.

The food is excellent! Staff are very friendly and highly recommended and very clean, including the toilets! It's always a good sign! The steaks highly recommend and the breakfast to! Lovely small pool area, again very clean! Think owned by a brit family who obviously have it running like clockwork for guests and punters like ourselves who call by for food! Highly recommend!

This pub has very recently been renovated and what a difference it has made to the inside, it's much more cosy to go and have a drink in as it feels more relaxing. Friday or Saturday nights they usually have a band on which is great if you like bands but beware it can make it more difficult to talk if that's what you want to do, but a super place now.
