About This Pub
Ah, the Fox & Goose – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem in Lancaster, you know? From the reviews, it's clear folks love the cosy atmosphere; it's that kind of place where you can pop in for a pint and end up staying for a full meal, chatting away without a care. The staff often get a big thumbs up for being polite and professional, really adding to the welcoming feel, and the food sounds delicious – think hearty Sunday lunches with tender beef, loads of veg, and desserts that'll leave you smiling, all without breaking the bank. It's also spot on for special occasions, like a christening party, with ample space and a laid-back crowd. But, let's be honest, it's not perfect every time; there are tales of unfriendly service that could leave you feeling a bit overlooked, and the odd meal that's not quite up to scratch, like dry chips or underwhelming scampi. Still, with such a strong overall rating, I'd say it's well worth checking out if you're in the area – just go in with an open mind and you'll likely have a cracking time.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The atmosphere is absolutely spot on – it's a welcoming independent pub that feels just right for a relaxed evening or a catch-up with mates.
-
Staff are generally lovely, polite, and professional, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
-
The food is a real highlight, with rave reviews for things like tender Sunday beef roasts, generous portions, and tasty desserts like cheesecake – all at a great price.
-
It's brilliant value for money, offering affordable meals and drinks without skimping on quality.
-
A top choice for events, with plenty of space for functions and a friendly vibe that even the regulars contribute to positively.
Cons
-
Service can sometimes fall flat, with a few mentions of staff coming across as cold or unfriendly, which puts a damper on the experience.
-
Food quality isn't always consistent; one account highlighted dry chips and frozen scampi that didn't hit the mark at all.
-
There have been gripes about the way food is served, like it being plonked down without much care, which can make for a less enjoyable visit.

Very good value will go again
Great pub food delicious staff friendly and reasonably priced
Not a great experience, I found the staff very cold, unfriendly and the food wasn't to my liking, frozen scampi and chips that were too dry. Food thrown on the table when served with little customer service.
We attended our 2 grandsons Christening party at this venue and it was amazing, the landlady is super friendly and the staff are fantastic, clean and tidy, large space for function use and also a good friendly public house when not used as a function room, the regulars were very polite and accommodating too, gave privacy to the function and respected it completely throughout, absolutely recommend 100%
