About This Pub

Ah, the First & Last – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local hideaway, tucked away in the heart of Millisle. From what I've gathered from the reviews, it's got this warm, inviting atmosphere where the staff really make you feel at home, like that time someone got free coffee and biscuits just for popping in. The prices are spot on for keeping things affordable, and there's always a good pint on offer, especially if you're up for some horse racing chat on the telly. On the flip side, it might not suit everyone if you're not into that racing scene, and with not many fresh reviews lately, it could be a bit quiet these days. Still, with a solid 4.5 rating, I'd say it's worth a visit for a laid-back evening – just pop in, have a chat, and see if it wins you over like it has for so many others.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The prices are really reasonable, making it a great spot for a budget-friendly pint without breaking the bank.
  • The staff are absolutely lovely and welcoming, often going the extra mile like offering free coffee and biscuits to visitors.
  • There's a fantastic atmosphere with plenty of banter and a real sense of community, where you might pop in as a stranger and leave feeling like part of the gang.
  • It's got a prime location right in the heart of Millisle, easy to find and perfect for a quick stop after a walk around the village.
  • You can enjoy a nice pint of Tennents or whatever's on tap, and it's especially good if you're into watching horse racing on the telly.
Cons
  • It might feel a bit niche if you're not into horse racing, as that's a big part of the vibe and could limit the appeal for some.
  • There haven't been many recent reviews, which makes me wonder if it's not as buzzing as it used to be, though the overall rating is still solid.
  • The operating hours seem a tad confusing or limited based on what's listed, so it's worth double-checking before heading out to avoid disappointment.
  • Without a website or much online presence, it's not the easiest place to get the latest info or updates from afar.

Called into this pub today to see if we could buy a couple of coffees. The lady behind the bar gave us 2 coffees and a plate of biscuits absolutely free. What a welcome.

The First and Last holds prime location right in the very heart of Millisle at the junctions of Main Street' Abbey Road and Strand Avenue. From the outside it is bright and welcoming every bit the picture postcard village pub. Walking down the wheel chair accessible entrance hall through the door you are whisked back to a time when people still had time for one another' a place to meet old friends and to make new ones' to discussing events of the day and forgetting those of yesterday. The staff at the first and last are brilliant' they are professional' polite and friendly making sure everyone has a fantastic time, they are a credit not only to the first and last but to millisle village. To the right as you enter is the first of two bars' the snug area and main service counter and to the left is a large open lounge with jukebox' gaming machines and toilets. Through the next set of doors is the main function room with its own bar' pool table' dart board' jukebox gaming machines and toilets' both rooms having access directly to the street with beautiful views down to the beach. Although the First and last in millisle is only 20 miles from Belfast it's a million miles from the hustle and bustle of City stress' it's a place you will love to come back to time and time again. I was told that the First and last got its name for being the first pub you'll see as you enter Millisle and the Last you'll see as you leave but I think it may be because after you've had your First pint here it will be the Last you'll want to have anywhere else. P.S. the Guinness is just fantastic 'I'm an expert'.
