About This Pub

Ah, the Ferry Inn – it's one of those places that just draws you in with its welcoming charm, tucked away near the River Trent for a bit of that rural escape without straying too far from the city buzz. I have to say, the atmosphere is spot on; picture yourself by a roaring open fire on a crisp evening, or soaking up the sun in the beer garden with a fresh pint in hand. The food's got some proper highlights too – think hearty pub classics and seasonal specials that really deliver when they're on form, and it's all at a moderate price that won't break the bank. The staff are an absolute delight, always chipping in with helpful advice or a friendly chat, which makes the whole experience feel personal and inviting. But, let's be honest, it's not all smooth sailing; there have been times when the food's been inconsistent, with some dishes disappointing or even items missing from plates, and waits can stretch out longer than you'd like, especially on busier nights. The music might crank up a bit too loud for some tastes, turning what could be a relaxed meal into something a tad overwhelming. Still, if you're after a laid-back spot for a catch-up with mates or a family Sunday roast, it's worth giving it a go – just keep those little niggles in mind and you'll likely have a cracking time.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The warm and welcoming atmosphere makes you feel right at home, especially with that cosy open fire on a chilly evening.
  • The food has some real winners, like the comforting pub classics and fresh seasonal dishes that hit the spot perfectly.
  • Staff are incredibly helpful and friendly, always ready with a smile and quick to sort out any little issues.
  • It's in a lovely spot near the River Trent, with a beer garden that's perfect for lazy afternoons when the sun's out.
  • They've got some nice touches, like supporting wildlife charities with their special ales, which adds a feel-good factor to your pint.
Cons
  • Food can be a bit hit or miss, with some dishes turning out great and others falling short, like poorly prepared meat or missing items.
  • Wait times for meals can drag on, which might put a dampener on your evening if you're hoping for a quick bite.
  • The music can get a tad loud and not everyone's cup of tea, making it harder to chat over dinner.
  • Service might feel relaxed to a fault at times, as it's more of a self-service bar ordering setup, which isn't ideal for everyone.

We came on a Saturday evening for dinner. You order at the bar so it is more relaxed dining. Our food was fine but I probably wouldn’t eat here again. It was a bit hit and miss, some dishes were very nice and some weren’t. They play loud, and in my opinion, un tasteful music which we weren’t a fan of. A big plus is that it was dog friendly and dogs are allowed inside too. The service was fine and the staff seemed polite! I would only come back for a drink, not to eat.

Very long wait for food and the meat for rest of party's meals was very poor. Items missing off plate. Requested a change of meat but seemed to come back the same way it left. Very disappointed.. the fish and chips was very nice though

We had a very nice meal, a cosy table and nice drinks. Our food was perfectly prepared and arrived after only a short wait. This isn't the first time we've been to the Ferry Inn, and I'm happy to say they've maintained a good standard each visit. Thank you!

As someone who doesn’t typically frequent pubs or enjoy pub food, I was pleasantly surprised by this place. The food was comforting and delicious, and the pub itself is absolutely stunning. We were first seated outside, which was lovely, but as the evening got chilly, they kindly moved us indoors, and both spaces were equally charming. Some of the plates weren’t very nicely served though, especially the shrimp and fries dish so definitely room for improvement on that. The pub is dog-friendly, and there’s plenty of seating, both indoors and out, which made for a relaxed and enjoyable experience overall.
