About This Pub
Ah, Farrer's Bar & Restaurant – it's one of those places in Scarborough that really captures the essence of a seaside getaway, with its prime spot overlooking the beautiful South Bay. I've got to say, the views alone make it a winner; imagine sipping a coffee or enjoying a meal while watching the waves roll in – it's just lovely. The food often gets high marks, like those tasty breakfasts with fresh yoghurt and granola, or hearty salads that leave you feeling satisfied without breaking the bank. The team behind the bar are usually spot on, being helpful and creating that warm, welcoming vibe that's perfect for a casual catch-up or a family outing. And it's great that they've thought about everyone, with dog-friendly areas and keeping things impeccably clean. On the flip side, though, it's not all smooth sailing; some meals can be a bit of a letdown, like a dry burger or soggy fries that don't quite deliver, and it can get packed out during events, leaving you high and dry if you haven't reserved a table. Plus, if you're there on a show night, the food service might end earlier than you'd hope, so timing is key. Overall, it's a solid choice for a relaxed day by the sea, but I'd recommend checking ahead and maybe sticking to their stronger dishes to make the most of it – after all, it's about enjoying the good bits while being savvy about the rest!
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The views from Farrer's Bar & Restaurant are absolutely stunning, right on South Bay with breathtaking sea sights that make any visit feel special.
-
The food can be really delicious, especially the breakfast options like layered yoghurt with rhubarb and homemade granola, or fresh salads – and it's often great value for money.
-
Staff are generally friendly and attentive, making you feel welcome whether you're popping in for a quick bite or a leisurely meal.
-
It's dog-friendly with separate areas for those who prefer not to have furry friends around, which is a nice touch for a day out.
-
The place is spotlessly clean and has a relaxed atmosphere, perfect for a pre-show meal or after a walk along the seafront.
Cons
-
Food quality can be hit or miss; some folks have had disappointing experiences with dry burgers and underwhelming fries that didn't live up to expectations.
-
It gets fully booked quickly, especially around events or conferences, so you might miss out on a table if you don't plan ahead.
-
On certain show nights or for standing events, the food service wraps up early, which could leave you scrambling for options if you're there later.
-
A few reviews mention snacks or lighter fare falling short, so it might not always hit the spot if you're after something simple and reliable.

Was here during fortress festival and they had a take away menu with a decent selection. Quality was poor though. The burger patty was a dry, slightly burned lump of meet and the fries were the worst I ever had. As if somebody just let Frozen fries thaw at room temperature. I did not even dare to try the substance that identified as cole slaw.
Great spot looking over South beach. Eaten here a couple of times now, and the food was delicious and reasonably priced. They are also fully licensed. Lots of tables, inside and out. Dog friendly, but they also have an area for those who prefer no dogs. It has always been spotlessly clean, including the toilets, which have plenty of cubicles available. It's one of my favourite spots where you can enjoy a meal or just a coffee and cake, or refreshments, and take in the lovely views.
Very disappointing.
Last year we came to a conference at the spa and the same has occurred today.
We were looking forward to enjoying lunch. We came to book a table, and they were all booked up even 1 hour before the conference started.
We thought we would have a snack while we were there.
I had a very dried out scone which had no more than 3 currants.
At lunchtime, we had a snack at the other on-site cafe. There were lots of tables free in there. I am surprised we weren't allowed to use these tables instead.
Lovely tray bake in there.
I have visited twice in March 2025. Breakfast, where I had the layer yoghurt & rhubarb, topped with homemade granola. Then I had a feta, black olive & humous salad. Both were absolutely delicious & very good value for money.
The staff were helpful, friendly & polite. The view was spectacular & it was extremely relaxing.
Well worth a visit. Thank you.
Called for the first time and ate breakfast, which was great. Staff were very friendly and attentive, and the service was quick and efficient. Great to be able to have the dogs with us and the early morning atmosphere was good. Will visit again in the future.
