About This Pub

Ah, the Farmers Boy in Brickendon – it's one of those classic English pubs that just feels like a proper hideaway from the hustle, you know? From what I've gathered, it's got this inviting, tranquil setting with friendly faces behind the bar who really make you feel welcome, whether you're popping in for a quick drink or settling in for a full meal. The food stands out as a real highlight; folks rave about the home-cooked dishes and that perfect pint of Guinness, and it's brilliant for families or if you're with your dog, as it's all very accommodating. They've got lovely outdoor areas for when the weather's on your side, and it's even hosted cracking events like weddings, where the team went above and beyond. But, to keep it real, there have been a few grumbles about waits dragging on a bit or the odd dish not quite living up to expectations – like a dry pie that needed more gravy. Still, with an overall rating hovering around 4.4, it's clear this place gets more right than wrong, and I'd say it's worth a visit if you're in the area for some good times and great company, just maybe plan for a leisurely afternoon.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is generally spot on – think tasty home-cooked meals with options like Brie and daily specials that hit the mark, especially for a hearty pub lunch or dinner.
  • It's got a lovely, welcoming atmosphere with friendly staff and regulars who make you feel right at home, perfect for a relaxed catch-up with mates.
  • Dog-friendly vibes all around, so you can bring your furry friend along without any hassle.
  • Plenty of outdoor space with beer gardens and a terrace, ideal for enjoying a pint in the fresh air on a sunny day.
  • They've got a great selection of real ales, wines, and even Guinness that's poured just right, plus it's wheelchair accessible and family-friendly.
Cons
  • Service can be a bit hit or miss, with some reports of long waits for food – like over 40 minutes even when it's not busy, which might leave you a tad frustrated.
  • The food isn't always perfect; a few folks mentioned dishes like pies being a bit dry or lacking in gravy, so it might not wow you every time.
  • While it's generally tranquil, if you're after something super lively, it could feel a little quiet or forgettable on off days.

Very tasty food. I'm glad that after a long time I found a pub that has Brie 🙏 I look forward to my next visit.

Popped in here at lunchtime today with my grandaughter and her boyfriend (who'd been in before). We loved it ... Great atmosphere and the staff, and the customers gor that matter were very friendly. It's a dog friendly pub so there were a few around to stroke but no fuss from any of them. The food was excellent... I had the Ribeye steak with peppercorn sauce and it was lovely... my wife had the cottage pie and said she would highly recommend it. My Grandaughter had the Hunters chicken and her boyfriend had the fish and chips, which both went down very well. We each had a desert and came out fit to burst. A lovely Sunday, albeit Bank Holiday Monday, lunch . P.S. I also bought a jar of their honey on the way out ... We will return .. Thank you.

The food was ok. Nothing special. The pie was a bit dry, and there wasn't enough gravy. Atmosphere fine. Not too loud, just right. The waiting for our meal was far too long 😩 just over 40 minutes, and the place wasn't full. Just a couple of birthdays. They forgot about us, just when we asked the waitres, they went to the kitchen and came back saying... it won't be too long, that added ten more minutes. When we arrived, we were thinking of booking there for Mother's Day, but after that experience, certainty nope.

We held our wedding party here. Rachel and her team went above and beyond to make our day extra special. The service and food were exceptional in quality and value. We can't recommend them enough if you're looking for a venue for a party, wedding or otherwise! Maximum points from us. See you again soon hopefully.

Had a most enjoyable meal this evening. Food was served hot and was very tasty. Puddings were cracking and Guinness was perfect. Well done to Rachel and your team....we will definitely be back!
