About This Pub
Ah, the Falstaff Free House – what a gem of a spot in Derby! From what I've gathered from the reviews, it's one of those unpretentious pubs that just hits the mark for a proper night out. The beers are a real highlight; they've got their own brews that folks rave about, with one reviewer even calling it the best Carling in town after trying loads. It's all about that quality and variety, and at inexpensive prices too, so you won't break the bank. The locals and staff sound like a friendly bunch, always up for a chat, which gives the place this cosy, welcoming feel – imagine walking in and being greeted like an old mate. Plus, there's plenty of that classic pub nostalgia with memorabilia everywhere, and an outside area for a bit of fresh air on a sunny day. But, let's be honest, it's not without its quirks; it's a bit hidden away in Normanton, so you might have to navigate some back streets to get there, and remember to bring cash because cards aren't an option. Oh, and if you're into knowing the full story behind your pint, you might find the info a tad lacking on some brews. All in all, though, it's a solid choice for anyone after a genuine, down-to-earth pub experience – I'd say give it a go if you're in the area, as long as you're up for a bit of adventure to find it!
Pros and Cons
Pros

The beers are absolutely top-notch, with their own brews that taste fantastic and offer great variety – it's like a hidden treasure for ale lovers.
-
The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, with friendly locals and staff that make you feel right at home, perfect for a relaxed chat over a pint.
-
It's got that lovely old-school charm, packed with memorabilia that gives it a nostalgic feel, and the prices are really affordable for a quality pint.
-
There's an outside area for when the weather's nice, which adds a bit of extra space to enjoy your drink without feeling cramped.
Cons
-
It can be a bit tricky to find, tucked away in the Normanton area, so you might end up wandering a little before you spot it.
-
They only accept cash, which is a bit of a hassle in this digital age – make sure you've got some notes with you or you'll be caught out.
-
Sometimes the info on the beers isn't as detailed as you'd hope, like with one ale where the staff couldn't give much background, which might leave you guessing.

Good back street boozer, brews ale, outside area too, can be a bit difficult to find in the normanton area but worth a visit. Cash only so bring some with you.
Really nice pub in the heart of Normanton, all the beers taste fantastic and are of the highest quality. Locals very friendly and the owners are really nice. Best carling in Derby - and I’ve been to loads of pubs.
Incredible back street find. We walked here and that was an experience seeing a vintage tractor at the Sikh temple.
The welcome was warm and service was great. We asked about the Ales and were given a good description but on one the bar tender said “I can’t give you any info’ on this one but you’re welcome to a taste”.
The pub is a real throw back and really a mix of tap house and Museum. The owners are passionate about their beer , Brewerama and the Offilers brewery that predates them, with huge amounts of memorabilia. They have a love for their trade their Customers and their area. The beer is well kept and served, visit and support them or risk losing this gem.
A great old fashion back street pub that brews it's own beer. Well worth a visit. Beer was good. Locals friendly.
Really fantastic old school pub full of memorabilia.. cheap pint from the excellent onsite brewery.
Really worth the walk from derby city center!
