About This Pub

Ah, THE MELBOURNE BAR in Derby – it's one of those hidden gems that gives you that genuine pub experience we've all come to love. From what I've gathered from the reviews, the staff are absolute stars, always up for a chat and making sure everyone feels included, which really adds to the charm. The drinks are priced just right, so you won't break the bank on a night out, and there's something special about that authentic local feel, like you're part of the community from the get-go. It's open every day from 10 until 11, which is handy for a relaxed afternoon or evening. On the other hand, it's cash only, which feels a bit behind the times and could put a dampener on things if you're not prepared – especially after all that fuss with Covid making contactless the norm. The overall vibe might come across as a tad quirky or even strange to some, like it's escaped from another era, and without any online info, it's not straightforward to check it out beforehand. All in all, if you're after a straightforward, friendly pub for a good chinwag and a cheap drink, it's worth popping in, but do remember to bring some cash along to avoid any awkward moments.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff and locals are incredibly friendly, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in
  • Drinks are really affordable, which is a treat when you're out for a casual pint or two
  • It has that authentic, traditional pub atmosphere – like stepping back in time to a proper local spot
Cons
  • It's cash only, which can be a real hassle these days when everyone's used to tapping their cards
  • The place has a bit of an outdated feel, almost like it's stuck in the past, which might not appeal to everyone
  • With no website or online presence, it's not the easiest to get info on or plan a visit

Strange little pub, like an escapee from another time. They obey all the rules associated with Covid-19, but don't accept cards? So, the biggest single item for risking infection...cash...flows freely across the bar. The have a in out entry system, but no signs on the doors to tell you this. Large steps at both points would seem to preclude wheelchair entry? The locals are welcoming in the main, but a few seemed slightly put out by the presence of strangers. Overall, not a place I'll be rushing back to...or at least until cash is no longer king!!
