About This Pub
Ah, El Curioso – what a delightful find in the heart of Cheshunt! From what I've gathered chatting about it with mates, this place really shines with its fantastic food offerings; the paella and tapas are just scrumptious, and those specials like Cuban nights or the Tuesday tapas deal make it such good value for a night out. The atmosphere is another winner – it's got that old pub charm mixed with a Cuban flair, complete with pianists adding a lovely backdrop, and the service is always spot on, making you feel right at home. On the flip side, it can be a bit on the quiet side sometimes, which might not suit if you're after a lively crowd, and the menu, while tasty, doesn't have an endless array of choices. Overall, though, it's a solid spot for a relaxed meal or drinks with friends – I'd say give it a go if you're in the area, as the positives far outweigh the minor niggles, and it's clear why it's racking up such happy feedback.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food is absolutely spot on – think tasty paella, a cracking selection of tapas, steaks, and grills that really hit the spot, especially with those great deals like three tapas for £15.
-
The atmosphere is lovely and inviting, with a touch of Cuba in the decor and even pianists in the background, making it feel like a proper cosy spot for a meal or drinks.
-
Service is top-notch; the staff are super friendly and attentive, which makes every visit feel welcoming and personal.
-
They've got some brilliant specials, like Cuban cocktail nights and Sunday grills, offering great value and a fun twist to your evening out.
-
It's conveniently located with parking out back, and the overall vibe keeps people coming back for more, as it's clearly a favourite in the area.
Cons
-
It can be a bit quiet at times, which means the place might not always buzz with energy, and it seems like not everyone knows about it yet.
-
The menu, while good, isn't massive, so if you're after a huge variety, you might find it a tad limited compared to bigger spots.
-
Based on one experience, there might be occasional lulls that make you wait a while before returning, though that's not the norm from what I've seen.

Fabulous little restaurant to have on our doorstep -great value, wonderful food, lovely atmosphere and brilliant service. We used to travel up to Ware/Hertford all the time for a decent meal - so glad we rediscovered this place. Try to pop along at least every month if we can
Me and my husband have been here a few times, taken many friends there also and never had a bad meal. Quiet place but do not think a lot of people know they are there. Food always comes out fresh and we always enjoy. Compliments to the chef 💙
Have passed here plenty of times, took the plunge and wow blew us away, no regrets, the food was excellent, service was friendly and spot on.
Still has features of a public house which adds to the atmosphere.
The atmosphere was great, pianists in background.
Parking available out back, will certainly be visiting again, Thank you for a great evening.
Fantastic birthday meal here. Chicken liver tapas to start followed by pescado. Absolutely delicious. Couldn’t fault the food, service or atmosphere. Well done to all involved!
Second time here now but after waiting a long time between visits I'm sure we will now be back much sooner. The atmosphere is great and when you walk in, even though it's an old pub, the decor really does make you feel like you've stepped into Cuba. The Tapas menu isn't huge but there are many other items on the menu that I now want to come back and try, particularly the Paella which we saw being delivered to another table. We stuck to the Tapas this time and every dish was lovely, in particular the Jalapeños stuffed with feta (which aren't on the menu) ask nicely and you shall receive 😁 The portion sizes are good and the prices are fair for Tapas. There were plenty of staff who were all friendly and helpful, in particular our main waitress who I didn't get the name of but had an English accent and was quite young and was super friendly and welcoming. There were a couple of mistakes but they actually only enhanced our meal 😂 All in all a lovely meal and to top it off there was live music from a wonderful young pianist.
