About This Pub

You know, when I think about Dovedale Towers on Penny Lane, it just feels like one of those cosy spots that captures the heart of Liverpool – a proper gastro pub where you can settle in for a pint and some good grub. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, they've nailed the beer selection, offering up a fantastic array that keeps things interesting, whether you're after something light or a hearty Guinness. The staff come across as genuinely warm and attentive, always ready with a smile and that extra touch of service that makes you want to linger. It's brilliant for get-togethers too, with a function room that's seen everything from lively parties to match-day cheers, and don't even get me started on the beer garden in the warmer months – it's just the ticket for a relaxed afternoon. But, let's be honest, it's not without its flaws; some have mentioned the food falling short now and then, like dishes that end up overcooked or items mysteriously off the menu, and those waits for your meal can stretch on, which might leave you a tad frustrated if you're peckish. Still, with such a solid overall rating, it's clear the good outweighs the bad, and I'd say it's well worth swinging by for a chat and a drink – just keep expectations in check for the eats.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • It's got a brilliant location right on the iconic Penny Lane, making it a must-visit for anyone wanting that authentic Liverpool feel.
  • The beer selection is top-notch, with a superb range that includes everything from craft ales to classics like Guinness.
  • Friendly and professional staff who really make you feel welcome, always going the extra mile to ensure you're looked after.
  • Dog-friendly vibe, which is a real treat if you're popping in with your four-legged mate.
  • Great for events and gatherings, with a function room that's perfect for parties or watching the match, and a lovely beer garden in the summer.
Cons
  • Food can be a bit inconsistent at times, with some dishes coming out overcooked or not always available on the menu.
  • Wait times for food might drag on longer than you'd hope, which can put a damper on things if you're in a rush.
  • Occasionally, the place might not be fully ready, like if you're after a quick coffee early on, so it's worth checking ahead.

A month ago I moved to the area with my family. We've been settling in... so as a treat to ourselves, we had made this place a local and gone there several times in the last month. Every time we came in we were extremely courteous and if our children left as much as a fry on the floor or the table we apologised. We even did our best to make sure the floors were as clear as we could before we left each time. We were extremely polite to thestaff and respected them and their workspace. On our most recent visit, one of the bar staff confronted me in a rude/accusatory manner and said we'd left nappies (multiple) in the beer garden. We hadn't... But I wasn't upset that he might have thought it was us. I was more upset in the fashion with which he approached me. It felt like he wanted to fight about it. There was a pure lack of tact and respect on his behalf. Maybe ask if we'd done it rather than accuse. I'm not a child. I'm not a chav. I didn't appreciate being spoken to like that. In fairness, when I came back and explained we hadn't done it. He did apologise. But it was too late. The damage was done. We won't be back. I see you.

Very quirky place to visit Sadly It had just opened and wasn't ready to serve us with a morning coffee but it was well worth going in to look at it's inside layout. A place with history. Freddie Mercury (pre Queen) lived in the flat above the pub. Originally built by and lived in by a rich Shipping agent.

Lovely place and the staff are always very friendly and welcoming. The food however is awful. A lot of the food is not available and what is offered is overcooked. The wait time for food is excessive. I truly hope they can get the food issues sorted as it is such a lovely bar with equally lovely staff.
