About This Pub

Ah, Peter Kavanagh's, what a little gem tucked away in Liverpool – it's one of those pubs that just wraps you up in its warmth the moment you step inside. From the reviews I've seen, folks absolutely rave about the unique decor and those snug little rooms that feel like your own front room, packed with Beatles memorabilia and a touch of taxidermy for good measure. The staff come across as genuinely welcoming, and the pints, especially a well-poured Guinness or the reliable Abbot ale, hit the spot without costing a fortune. It's got that authentic, historic charm that's hard to find these days, making it ideal for a relaxed afternoon or evening with mates. But let's be straight, it's not without its quirks – the beer options are a tad limited, so if you're after a wide range of brews, you might end up a bit disappointed. Plus, it can be a challenge to locate or figure out if it's open, and it often keeps things low-key, which is lovely for a quiet pint but not so much if you're in the mood for a bustling night out. All in all, if you're a pub lover who appreciates atmosphere over everything, this one's worth seeking out for a proper, unpretentious experience – just go with an open mind and you'll likely leave with a smile.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The pub has a wonderfully unique and characterful interior, with cosy snug rooms and plenty of Beatles memorabilia that make you feel right at home.
  • The atmosphere is spot on – friendly staff and a relaxing vibe that really adds to the charm of the place.
  • They serve a cracking pint of Guinness and other nice options like Abbot ale, all at affordable prices that won't break the bank.
  • It's got that historic, rustic feel that's full of stories, making it a hidden gem in Liverpool that's perfect for a laid-back catch-up.
Cons
  • The beer selection can be a bit limited, like only having Guinness for stout, which might not suit everyone looking for more variety.
  • It can be tricky to spot from the outside or know if it's open, especially if you're popping in at an off-peak time.
  • Sometimes it's on the quiet side, which is great for a chat but might not buzz with energy if you're after a lively crowd.

A unique pub. I love the two small snug type rooms and the interior decor. Please don’t change. A good pint of Guinness too. Abbot ale is a regular bitter which is very nice.

A pub full of character. Sitting in here is much like being in my own front room but with a lot less taxidermy and a huge amount more Beatles memorabilia. Lovely staff, friendly and relaxing. I admit that the only stout was Guinness which means I probably will never come back but I'm glad I popped in. Less beer fussy people will find so much to adore here.

Lots of folks say what makes a good pub is the beers etc they sell. I must have been in 300 pubs in my life and disagree. What makes a good pub to me is the atmosphere, the clientele and most of all the staff. I read up about this place and took a half hour walk to eventually find it. Hugely impressed and made to feel extremely welcome from moment I arrived until leaving. Not sure what they are paying Mark but it's no near enough. Hope to be back our next visit. Thanks again Mark and customers.

We visited Peter Kavanagh's in Liverpool, near the Cathedral, based on a friend's recommendation. It was around 3pm, from the outside we weren't sure if it was open, but went in and was pleased it was. The pub was quiet, with just a few locals and groups catching up. The Guinness was good and affordable, as was the Shropshire ale. The pub has several nooks, perfect for private conversations, which adds to its charm. The bar staff were friendly enough, and we paid in cash. It feels like a true local spot, complete with a fruit machine and regulars, but it also had some quirky history. The decor is filled with fun objects, especially behind the bar. Overall, good pint, good service - recommended.

What can one say about such a historic and decorated pub? Beautiful from the moment you turn the corner onto the narrow street. Stumbled upon this place and had to wait a bit for them to open at noon because I just had to see the inside. Every inch of this place is rustic and has a story. The small alcoves/drinking rooms are the best part. Has that old smell, in a good way. Barkeep was super friendly and helpful. Four cask handles and several draft options. Also one of the cheaper pints in town at less than £4. A neighborhood pub doesn’t get better than this!
