About This Pub

Ah, Dead Wax Digbeth – what a little hidden gem in Birmingham's Digbeth area! From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, this place really shines with its live music nights; the sound quality is spot-on, making it one of the best small venues in the city for a proper gig. The atmosphere is just lovely – inclusive and fun, where you can relax and enjoy yourself without any fuss. The staff are absolute stars; whether it's a friendly chat with the door guy or top service at the bar, they make you feel right at home. And the decor? It's all so quirky and unique, with vinyls, posters, and even a beer garden that adds to the charm – feels a bit like stepping into a New York dive bar, but with that Brummie twist. They've got great drinks on tap, like a perfect pint of Guinness, and it's brilliant for catching live sports too. But, and I have to be straight with you, it's not all perfect. A few folks have mentioned that the website promises things like playing your own records or serving up pizza, but when you get there, it's not happening, which can leave you a tad frustrated. Still, with an overall rating pushing 4.5, it's clear most people have a whale of a time. If you're heading out for a night of music and drinks, I'd say give it a go – just keep expectations realistic and maybe grab some food beforehand. All in all, it's a solid choice for a memorable evening out.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The live music scene is absolutely brilliant – top-notch sound quality that makes you feel right in the thick of it.
  • It's got this warm, inclusive atmosphere where everyone just wants to have a good time, no pretences at all.
  • The staff are dead friendly; you'll have chats with the security bloke or get brilliant service from the bar team.
  • Quirky decor everywhere, like a proper New York dive bar with vinyls, posters, and even a photobooth – it's all so unique and fun.
  • Great selection of drinks, including a cracking pint of Guinness, plus an outdoor beer garden and live sports to enjoy.
Cons
  • The website might get your hopes up for things like playing your own vinyl records, but it's not always on offer, which can be a bit disappointing.
  • They advertise food options like pizza, but it's not available, so you might end up needing to head elsewhere for a bite.
  • Opening times can vary, and it might not always live up to every promise, leaving you with a slight let-down if you're set on specifics.

As a live venue this place can proud to be one on the best small venues in Birmingham. The sound quality was excellent. The atmosphere was inclusive and not pretentious M. Everybody wanted to have fun. The bar is quirky. Feels like a proper NY Dive bar with very friendly staff. Could this be Brums CBGB’s? Yep I think so!!!

Quirky pub in Digbeth. Good atmosphere and great pints. Love the aesthetic. Loads of vinyls, posters, photobooth, B&H Gold cigarette machine, outdoor beer garden, live sports, and music. Great pint of Guinness in here. A home fan's only pub on Blues Matchday's.

Lovely looking bar, inside is well decorated but sadly nothing as advertised. Website states they have vinyl records you can select and play however when we asked we were told they won't play them. Also the website states they have pizza but the staff informed us they haven't done food for a long time so we had to order from deliveroo. Not the most interesting selection of beer either, a bit of a let down on all fronts really.
