About This Pub

Ah, the Cross Keys – what a gem in the heart of Barrow-in-Furness! From what I've gathered from the reviews and the website, it's got that authentic pub charm that's hard to beat, with folks raving about the welcoming atmosphere and the lovely locals who make newcomers feel right at ease. The beer selection is a real highlight; they've got some fantastic local brews and guest ales on tap, and it's all at prices that won't leave you out of pocket. Plus, with activities like darts, pool, and karaoke, it's not just about the drinks – there's always a bit of fun to be had, whether it's live music nights or just catching up with mates over a game. On the flip side, though, the interior does feel a tad outdated, like it's holding onto its 1960s roots a bit too tightly, which might not suit those after something more contemporary. And with no specific opening times available, you could end up planning a trip only to find it's shut, which is a bit of a nuisance. Overall, it's a place that does the basics brilliantly and has earned its 4.3 rating through genuine good times, but it's worth knowing what you're getting into for a balanced night out.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is spot on – it's a proper traditional pub with a welcoming vibe that makes you feel right at home, especially if you're after that classic local feel.
  • They've got a cracking selection of local beers and guest ales, plus other drinks like wines and liqueurs, which really hits the spot for anyone who appreciates a good pint.
  • Loads of fun activities on offer, like darts, pool, karaoke, and even live music or TV entertainment, so there's always something to keep the evening lively.
  • The staff are friendly and the locals are a great bunch, making it easy to chat and feel included, even if you're new to the area.
  • Prices are reasonable, and it stays open late, which is perfect for a relaxed night out without breaking the bank.
Cons
  • The interior feels a bit dated, like it's stuck in the 1960s, which might not appeal to everyone looking for a more modern spot.
  • There aren't any clear operating hours listed, so you might have to check in advance to avoid turning up when it's closed – that could be a bit frustrating.
  • As a hotel too, the accommodation is mentioned, but it's not clear how that all ties in, and it might not be the most up-to-date option for a stay.

Wednesday 1st January 2024 Tonight, we had a pint of real ale in this proper town centre locals pub This pub had 2 hand pumped ales on offer. The staff friendly and the local following were good. This pub has a horseshoe bar and a 1960s interior to it. Long may these sort of pubs keep going

Went there as stated as a good traditional pub atmosphere -- but the real "selling point" was the clientele ! Wonderful friendly folks making all newbies very welcome! Great bunch of people! A great advert for Barrow! Xx

The Cross Keys is the town center right next to take aways and the taxi rank. The interior is dated but the beer is a great price. Stays open late as well and has the occasional live music on. What's not to like for a pub 🤷🏻‍♂️
