About This Pub
Ah, Croes Howell – it's one of those places in Wrexham that I've heard mixed things about, and from what I've gathered from chatting around, it's got that warm, community vibe with a nice mix of old-school charm and modern touches, perfect for a relaxed afternoon or evening. What really stands out is how family-oriented it is; they've got an outdoor play area and a bouncy castle that keeps the kids entertained, and the staff seem to genuinely care, like going above and beyond for anyone with allergies – that's always a plus in my book. The food can be a winner too, especially if you're opting for something simple like a well-cooked steak or that triple meat Sunday lunch; when it's on form, it's just lovely and hits the spot. But honestly, it's not all smooth sailing – I've heard tales of disappointing meals where dishes were sent back because they were inedible, and that can really put a dampener on things, particularly when you're paying a bit more than you'd expect. Service has been a bit inconsistent as well, with some folks waiting ages for their food even when the place isn't busy, which is frustrating if you're out for a quick bite. Overall, it's worth a visit if you're in the area and fancy a go, especially with the family, but maybe keep your expectations in check and perhaps book ahead to avoid any hitches – it's got potential, but like any spot, it's got its rough edges.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food can be absolutely spot on when it's good, like that steak or the triple meat Sunday lunch that folks rave about – it's a real treat for a hearty meal.
-
It's super family-friendly with a great outdoor play area and bouncy castle, making it ideal for a day out with the little ones, and the staff go the extra mile for things like handling food allergies.
-
The atmosphere blends a bit of history with modern vibes, right in the heart of the community, and it's got a welcoming feel that makes you want to linger.
Cons
-
Some meals have been a letdown, with a few dishes being inedible or just not up to scratch, which is a shame when you're looking forward to a nice bite.
-
Service can be hit or miss, with long waits for food even when it's quiet, like one group waiting until 5pm for their mains after arriving at 3:30pm.
-
It's on the pricey side for what you get, and that might leave you feeling it's not quite worth the cost, especially if things don't go smoothly.

We were really looking forward to having food here but what a disappointment it was. The steak was the best food out of 5 meals. But anyone can cook a steak. Definitely not worth the price. One meal was sent back as it was inedible, we did have a lovely waitress who apologised, took that meal off the bill and offered a free drink. There was a quite a long wait for food, it was busy but mainly with drinkers. It was only the lovely waitress that was attentive throughout the whole ordeal. Waiting for the bill was a complete joke. A very disappointing and underwhelming experience, will not visit again. Same quality food in Wetherspoons for a fraction of the price.
I'm sorry to say but so disappointed with my visit. The restaurant was basically empty hardly any staff about ordered our food and drink pretty quick arriving 3:30pm. 5pm came and we'd only been served our starter. My 7 year old old son hadn't received his food either. Also my dad is diabetic. To where we'd finally had enough and just decided to pay for what we had and leave. Also might add as we were leaving a car drove into the car park and one of the chefs jumped out and ran into the pub so may explain why food was taking so long. Shame cos its a lovely pub with nice grounds
What a lovely place. Food was delicious and we were well catered for with kids allergies. The staff went above and beyond to make sure that the food was safe for our little one with food allergies. Great play area in the garden area, with a bouncy castle to suite all ages of little people. All in all very pleased.
Great pub to go to for Sunday lunch. We had the 'triple meat' option. It was lovely. Well worth a visit.
I had a lovely afternoon with my friends at Croes Howell.
There were bouncy castle and playground for the kids to enjoy outside.
Outdoor tables were full, so I recommend making a reservation if the weather is nice on the weekend!!
