About This Pub

Ah, Clissold Park Tavern, what a gem it is for a laid-back afternoon or evening out. I've got to say, it's one of those places that just feels right – nestled opposite the beautiful Clissold Park, it's ideal if you've been for a wander and fancy rewarding yourself with a pint or a pizza. The atmosphere is spot on, always buzzing with a mix of families, dog walkers, and groups of friends, and the staff are absolute stars, making you feel right at home with their friendly service. The food's generally a winner too; those pizzas and burgers have had me coming back, especially on a sunny day in the garden. But, let's be honest, it's not all perfect – I remember hearing about a pizza that was a bit too salty, and that salad seemed a touch small for the price, which might leave you feeling short-changed. Still, with its family-friendly vibes and options for watching the rugby or sipping cocktails, it's a solid choice for most. If you're heading over, I'd suggest booking if it's a weekend, just to avoid any hassle, but overall, it's a place that delivers more good times than not, and I'd happily recommend it for a proper pub experience.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The location is spot on, right opposite Clissold Park, making it perfect for a stroll and then popping in for a drink or bite.
  • The atmosphere is buzzing and welcoming, with a great mix of families, dogs, and mates enjoying themselves – it's got that real community feel.
  • Food options like pizzas and burgers are a hit; they look and smell fantastic, and folks rave about how tasty they are.
  • Staff are top-notch – friendly, attentive, and always up for a chat, which really makes the visit more enjoyable.
  • It's family-friendly with nice touches like free Prosecco on Mother's Day, and the place stays clean and cosy for a relaxed time.
  • They've got a good selection of beers, cocktails, and even sports on, so it's versatile for different occasions.
Cons
  • Some dishes can be a bit hit or miss; for instance, the pizza might come out a tad salty, which puts a dampener on things.
  • Portions aren't always generous – like that salad for £6, which felt small with just a couple of cucumber pieces, not quite worth the price.
  • It can get packed, especially on sunny days or for events, so you might need to book ahead to avoid disappointment.
  • While the vibe is great, it might not suit everyone if you're after something super quiet, as it's often lively.

Atmosphere was buzzing with all sorts. I ordered a salami pizza with salad. The pizza was a bit salty and the salad was mixed leaves with tomato and cucumber and a balsamic vinegar dressing. For £6 I expected a bigger salad with more than 2 pieces of cucumber in it. The pizza was £14 as I ordered a margarita pizza and added salami for an additional £2. I had a child with me so ordering on my phone was really easy however you have to pay a 10% service charge.

Visited the Tavern to celebrate Mother’s Day. Have always drove past this place but never been in. Luckily we booked as the sun was shining and the venue was packed. Mum was happy with her free glass of Prosecco 😃 The tavern appealed to us as a family with two kids as their Sunday menu wasn’t restricted to just ‘Roasts’ which is rare to find. The kids were happy with their pizzas and we ordered the Lamb Roast and Pork Belly roasts. The vegetables and roast potatoes were amazing, however the meat was a bit disappointing. The pork belly was not hot enough and the lamb was tough. Pizzas were great and tasted really good. Would definitely be willing to try the roasts out again and visit for pizza and drinks again.

This is a very pleasant pub with a number of advantages. Firstly, location - it sits opposite the beautiful and popular Clissold park, so you can work up an appetite before your visit. On this score it is also very dog friendly, with many customers enjoying the ambience with their four legged companions. Secondly it has a spacious garden, making it an ideal summer time location but also good for the smokers amongst us. Importantly, it is a great spot for watching that most sociable of sports, namely football, with plenty of TVs inside and outside. Then there is the food menu, which includes a number of delicious pizzas fired up in a dedicated oven, along with a number of other interesting dishes. Fortunately the beer is pretty good too. Enjoy.
