About This Pub
Ah, Chequers in Houghton Regis – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a friendly local haunt, you know? From what I've gathered chatting about it, the staff really go the extra mile; they're quick to sort out any tweaks to your order and keep things cheerful, which makes for a lovely atmosphere. The food's generally a hit, especially with those budget-friendly deals that let you fill up without breaking the bank – think hearty portions of classics that hit the spot after a long day. It's brilliant for families or if you're up for watching the Women's Euros or other live sports with a pint in hand. On the flip side, though, it's not all perfect; a few have grumbled about the odd dish lacking that real wow factor, feeling a bit basic for the price, and you might find the breakfast options aren't always on offer when you fancy them. Still, overall, it's a solid choice if you're in the area – I'd say give it a try for a casual get-together, but maybe stick to the crowd-pleasers to avoid any disappointments. It's all about that balance of good vibes and value, innit?
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are absolutely brilliant – always friendly and helpful, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
-
The food's a real winner with some cracking dishes like the chicken goujon wrap or the Bangin' Katsu chicken; it's affordable and comes out quick, especially with those tempting deals like tucking in for a tenner.
-
It's a proper family-friendly spot with comfy seating, plenty of space, and facilities like Sky Sports and WiFi, so you can catch the big games or just relax.
-
Being inexpensive means you get great value for your money, whether it's for a casual meal or a few drinks, and it's easy to get to with a car park and even EV charging.
Cons
-
Some folks have mentioned the food quality isn't always up to scratch, like one person comparing it to school dinners – it's cheap, but that can mean it's more about quantity than taste.
-
The breakfast menu isn't always available, which might disappoint if you're popping in for a morning bite.
-
It can feel a bit hit or miss on busier nights, though from what I've seen, it's generally reliable, just keep in mind it might not be the poshest grub around.

I called in today at lunchtime. The service was excellent and the staff very helpful, the breakfast menu wasn't on offer so I had the chicken goujon wrap which was very good, definitely call in again when out that way.
Excellent service and friendly staff. Food came quick and made adjustments easy and without any issues. Cody and Zidane the hero’s of the hour for sorting us dessert for 5 after kitchen had closed. Delicious food and amazing deals. If you want a new family friendly affordable pub this is the place to go.
Wow. Absolutely fantastic food, served hot and promptly ( not a busy night though). Staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful. Comfy seating with plenty of room between tables so not sat on top of other people. Would recommend the Bangin' Katsu chicken - amazing.
Chequers is a fantastic local pub with great food and reasonably priced drinks. The menu offers a good selection of classic pub dishes, all well-prepared and served in generous portions. Whether you're stopping by for a casual drink or a hearty meal, you won’t be disappointed.
What really sets Chequers apart is the atmosphere and service. Jon, the manager, is incredibly friendly and welcoming, always ensuring guests feel at home. His hospitality, along with the attentive staff, makes for a great experience every time.
Another bonus—Chequers is dog-friendly! It’s a great spot to relax with your furry friend while enjoying a drink or a bite to eat.
If you're looking for a warm and inviting pub with quality food, affordable drinks, and a welcoming atmosphere, Chequers is definitely worth a visit!
They advertise this place is worth waking up for... The food here could wake the de ad.
Food was cheap so there was quantity, but obviously lacked in quality.
The sausages here are the same as the 1s served in school dinners.
Definitely won't be eating here ever again
