About This Pub
Ah, The Poynters Arms – it's one of those classic estate pubs that you come across in places like Dunstable, and from what I've gathered from the reviews, it's got that real community heart to it. I love how it's ideal for get-togethers; imagine hosting a party in that spacious room with its own bar – sounds like a winner for celebrations, as one reviewer absolutely raved about their mum's birthday do. The pool table's a proper draw, and the food and drinks are solid, with mentions of delicious homemade cakes that really hit the spot. It's got a solid 4.4 rating, which speaks to the good times had by many. But, let's be straight, it's not all rosy – there are tales of the service being a bit off, like the landlord coming across as rude or not keeping things running smoothly during peak times, and the cleanliness, especially the toilets, could do with some attention. Still, if you're up for a no-fuss night out with mates, it's worth popping in, just keep your expectations in check and maybe go on a quieter evening to avoid any potential letdowns.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, making it a great spot for community events and parties – one friend had a fabulous 70th birthday bash there with a lovely big room and its own bar.
-
They've got a decent pool table that's always a hit, and the food and drinks are straightforward and enjoyable, including tasty cakes made by the staff.
-
It's a proper local pub with friendly people and a relaxed vibe, perfect for a casual catch-up or a game with mates.
Cons
-
Service can be inconsistent and sometimes rude, with a few reports of the landlord not being the friendliest, which puts a damper on the experience.
-
Cleanliness isn't always up to scratch, especially the toilets, and there are mentions of not handling busy times well, like serving in turn.
-
It feels like the place has slipped a bit over time, with some saying it's gone downhill, so you might not get the polished feel you'd hope for.

The old centurion pub. I was at a party recently and it was the same estate pub as always. I've been drinking in the Katherine Drive pubs all my life. If you hire out the other part of the bar area, make sure you serve in turn and cater for quantities. Keep toilets clean and keep on top of wayward people in that party.
Unfortunately I won't recommend this venue for a party. 🙏Hopefully a change in the future.
Played pool here ...decent estate pub with all the usual suspects in a glass or bottle...the food provided to the teams was good ...the cake made by the lady behind the bar was top notch
Had my mum's 70th birthday party here, it was fab, lovely big room with a bar.

This place has gone downhill.
A very experienced landlord acting so rude and only seems to think about himself.
I know this pub will improve and be back to it's former greatness, so willing to wait for the owners to realise that the local ageing community and customers
Need to be respected and valued.
