About This Pub
Oh, let me tell you about Caxton Grill – it's tucked away in Westminster and feels like a hidden gem with its rooftop garden providing the freshest ingredients for some truly inventive dishes. I love how they've got that Josper grill working its magic, giving everything a delicious smoky edge, and the service is just brilliant; it's that perfect balance of friendly chat without being over the top. Whether you're in for a casual drink in the bar or a proper sit-down dinner, the atmosphere is always buzzing and inviting. On the flip side, it's not flawless – I've heard a few tales of meals that didn't quite live up to expectations, like some underwhelming festive options with tough cuts and not-so-tender veg, which could leave you a bit let down if you're banking on a flawless night. All in all, it's worth a visit for the highs, but go in with an open mind and you'll likely have a cracking time swapping stories over a good meal.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food is absolutely inventive and fresh, with ingredients straight from their rooftop garden – it's like eating a bit of nature in the heart of London, and the Josper grill adds a lovely smoky flavour to the dishes.
-
Service is spot on; it's relaxed yet attentive, making you feel right at home, whether you're popping in for a quick bite or settling in for a full evening.
-
The atmosphere is warm and buzzing, perfect for catching up with mates over cocktails or a signature flight of wines and whiskies in the bar.
-
They've got great options for everyone, including vegetarian dishes and private dining for special occasions, which makes it versatile for all sorts of get-togethers.
Cons
-
Some dishes can fall short, like that Christmas menu with gristly turkey and undercooked veg – it's a shame when you expect top-notch based on the hype.
-
It might not always hit the mark for everyone, as one experience left a group feeling disappointed despite the generally high praise.
-
The bar and dining setup could feel a bit pricey if you're not in the mood for a splurge, especially after a few rounds of drinks and courses.

Caxton Grill in London exceeded all expectations—an unforgettable dining experience. The food was absolutely amazing and beautifully presented. What truly set the evening apart, though, was the impeccable service—the best we have ever had. Highly recommended for anyone seeking top-tier cuisine with exceptional hospitality
Beautiful vegetarian option and lovely sticky pudding. Nice atmosphere in the bar. Full 3 course dinner with guests and lots of wine so spent more but was worth it
Visited with 8 colleagues on a Wednesday night and was pretty disappointed with CG. Expected better based on the reviews. Had the Christmas menu and the Turkey roast was poor. It wasn’t presented well and the cuts were very gristly. The veg on the side weren’t cooked through in some instances. It’s just annoying when you pay so much for what looked like a half-job. Won’t be back here for entertaining my team.
Had dinner with 2 friends and it was a very pleasurable experience. The Caxton Grill is part of the St Ermin's Hotel and you will not be disappointed if you visit.
We had the Gazpacho Soup, Venison Tartare, Gin Cured Salmon, Catch of the Day, Sirloin Steak, Cauliflower Steak, Brocoli, Chips, and French Beans, followed by the Vanilla White Chocolate Mousse (with as glass of Tokaji).
All the courses were delicious. We were all very satisfied......the only thing I would have liked would have been an extra slice or two of the salmon with the starter, but it was very tasty and the trout and horseradish mouse was excellent.
My steak was perfect. Big thick cut, juicy, well cooked.....one of the best steaks I have eaten (and i have had many recently!)
The service was excellent. Friendly and attentive. The restaurant works well for families, couples, or business dinners.
Sunday night dinner at 7:45pm. Relaxed, friendly service. Toasted mackerel, burger, BBQ short ribs and French bean all perfectly done and quite tasty. To an American palette, the beans slightly undersalted, but easily remedied. Delicious and flavorful otherwise. I enjoyed the glug-glug of the fish-shaped water pitchers, an odd and fun touch. An elegant and enjoyable dining experience.
