About This Pub

Ah, the Castle Inn in Kendal – it's one of those pubs that just warms you up from the moment you step inside, like bumping into an old mate on a chilly evening. From the reviews, folks rave about the staff, who go out of their way to make everyone feel welcome, whether you're popping in for a quick drink or travelling from places like Canada. The beer selection is spot on, with a great range of ales that hit the mark every time, and it's all set in a comfy, traditional atmosphere that's clean as a whistle. Throw in free pool and darts for a bit of light-hearted fun, and you've got a proper spot for a relaxed night. On the downside, their website's a bit of a let-down with some errors, so it might not be the easiest to get the latest details online, and the operating hours look a smidge messy with all those repeats. Still, if you're after an honest, unpretentious pub experience in a lovely location near the river and castle, this one's worth seeking out – it's got that genuine community feel without trying too hard.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home whether you're a local or visiting from afar
  • They've got an excellent selection of beers and ales, always spot on for a proper pint
  • It's got that cosy, traditional pub vibe with a comfortable interior that's perfect for unwinding
  • The place is kept spotlessly clean, which is a nice touch for a relaxed evening
  • Free pool and darts add a fun bit of entertainment without any extra cost
Cons
  • Their online presence could do with a bit of sprucing up, as the website had some issues when I checked
  • The operating hours listed seem a tad confusing, with repeats that might make it hard to know exactly when they're open

Stopped by before we caught the train back to Manchester. Traditional pub with a cozy vibe, pool table, and fish tank.

Great little pub so friendly as we came in from Canada. Even though originally from the area. Made us feel at home. Looking forward to going back one day

Friendly, welcoming staff and an excellent choice of beers. Also spotlessly clean with free pool and darts. What more could you want?

This much loved pub, which had been closed for 2 years is now under new ownership. The new owners of this Free House are trying as hard as possible to make it a new version of the old style Community Pub that it used to be. The Castle Inn re-opened in July 2020. Please bare this in mind if reading old reviews from a year ago or longer. Thank You.
