About This Pub
Ah, Brownhill Hotel – it's one of those unpretentious pubs in Rochdale that you might stumble upon and end up staying longer than planned. From what I've gathered from the reviews, it's got that warm, welcoming feel where the staff go out of their way to make you comfortable, and the beers are reasonably priced, which is always a win in my book. I love how it's a proper quiet spot without any distractions like music or telly, so it's brilliant for catching up with pals over a game of pool or darts. The beer garden sounds like a real gem too, especially on a nice day, though watch out for those pesky wasps that pop up in the warmer months – nothing ruins a good sip quite like that! On the flip side, it seems one of the bar staff isn't the chattiest, which might make you feel a tad overlooked, and they've got this rule about no mobiles, which could feel a bit outdated if you're used to scrolling while you sip. Overall, with a solid 3.7 rating, it's got more highs than lows, but I'd say it's worth a visit if you're after a straightforward, no-fuss pub experience – just pop in and see for yourself, as long as it's open, of course.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
-
It's a Samuel Smith's pub, so you get cracking value for money with pints like Taddy's at just £3.40 – perfect for keeping things affordable.
-
The atmosphere is lovely and relaxing, with no blaring music or TVs, ideal for a proper chat over a drink.
-
There's a spacious beer garden out back, great for enjoying a pint in the fresh air, especially on a sunny day.
-
They've got fun extras like a pool table and darts, which add a bit of entertainment without overwhelming the vibe.
Cons
-
One of the bar staff, apparently the Welsh chap, doesn't seem to crack a smile much, which can put a slight dampener on things.
-
The beer garden has had issues with wasps in the summer, which might spoil your outdoor experience if you're not a fan.
-
There's a strict no-mobile policy, which some might find a bit old-school and restrictive when you're trying to catch up with mates.
-
Operating hours aren't clearly listed, and it might be tricky to know if it's open, so you'd want to check ahead to avoid disappointment.
