About This Pub

Ah, the Britannia Inn – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem in Middleton, Manchester. I've got to say, from what I've gathered, it's got that warm, homely atmosphere where you can kick back with a fresh pint of JW Lees ale or one of their crisp lagers, and the staff really go the extra mile to make everyone feel welcome. The food stands out too; whether it's a hearty burger or a steak baguette, it's all homemade and presented nicely, offering solid value without breaking the bank. Plus, with options for live sport, a jukebox, and games like pool and darts, there's always something to keep the evening buzzing. The beer garden is a lovely spot for sunnier days, and it's great that dogs are welcome – perfect if you're out for a walk. On the flip side, while the reviews are mostly rave-worthy, that 4.0 rating hints there might be the occasional hiccup, like busier evenings when it gets a bit packed, or not knowing the exact prices upfront. And without a phone number handy, it could be a faff if you need to check on anything. All in all, it's a solid choice for a night out; I'd pop in for the friendly chats and good times, but maybe plan ahead if you're after a quieter visit.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are absolutely brilliant – always warm, friendly, and make you feel right at home from the moment you step in.
  • The food is spot on; think delicious homemade options like steak baguettes and burgers that are well-presented and offer great value for money.
  • It's got a fantastic atmosphere, with live entertainment, a jukebox, and games like darts and pool to keep things lively.
  • The beer garden is a real treat, perfect for enjoying a pint of JW Lees ale outside on a sunny day, and it's super dog-friendly too.
  • Family-friendly vibes all around, with events space and a welcoming feel that makes it easy to pop in with the little ones or for a casual catch-up.
Cons
  • The overall rating sits at a solid 4.0, which suggests that while most folks love it, there might be the odd off day or mixed experiences that aren't captured in the glowing reviews we've seen.
  • Details like pricing aren't specified, so it could surprise you if you're after something really budget-friendly – worth checking in advance.
  • With no phone number listed, it might be a bit tricky to get in touch quickly if you need to sort something out.
  • It seems like a popular spot, so on busier nights, you might find it a tad crowded, and grabbing a table could take a bit of patience.

Booked in here today for food. . Not been in this pub for many years and we weren’t sure what to expect. We weren’t disappointed. Has been redecorated and looks great , food was lovely , homemade ( even the chips) We opted for steak baguettes and burgers . All presented well. Saw the Sunday lunch which also looked lovely . Met the new landlord , really friendly and clearly knows what he is doing and has some great plans for the pub. Live music which was also great. Really nice outside space too. All in all a great first visit , we will definitely be back . PS food hygiene rating of 5 which is always good !
