About This Pub

Ah, The Edgar Wood in Middleton – it's one of those local spots that really captures the heart of a good British pub, isn't it? I have to say, it's got that warm, inviting feel where you can pop in for a pint and end up chatting away the evening. The staff are absolute gems, always up for a laugh and making sure everyone's looked after, and the drinks deals are spot on for keeping things affordable without skimping on quality. If you're into your sports, it's a brilliant place to catch the big games with all those screens dotted around, and the occasional karaoke night or free grub on Thursdays adds a real spark to the place. Plus, with the beer garden and being dog-friendly, it's ideal for a relaxed afternoon. On the flip side, though, it's not without its quirks – I've heard a few tales of service that didn't quite hit the mark, like unexpected ID requests that left some feeling a bit miffed, and honestly, the decor could use a bit of TLC to freshen it up. Overall, it's a solid choice for a laid-back get-together, but maybe keep your expectations in check for the finer details, and you'll have a cracking time.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are really friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
  • Drinks are incredibly affordable, with cheap pints that won't break the bank – perfect for a casual night out.
  • It's got a great vibe for watching live sports, with plenty of HD screens showing football, rugby, and more.
  • They've got fun extras like karaoke and free food on Thursdays, which add a lively touch to the evenings.
  • The pub is clean and tidy, with nice seating areas and a welcoming beer garden for when the weather's nice.
  • It's dog-friendly, so you can bring your furry friend along for a pint in the fresh air.
Cons
  • Service can be a bit hit or miss at times, with some reports of odd experiences like unnecessary ID checks that might put you off.
  • The place could do with a freshen-up; it's a tad worn around the edges and might benefit from a new coat of paint.
  • Not every visit is seamless, as there have been instances where things felt a bit disorganised, which could spoil the fun.

It needs a lick of paint, but other than that, it's generally ok. There are plenty of tv's showing sports and a decent choice on the pumps.
