About This Pub
Oh, let me tell you about Brewhouse & Kitchen in Chelmsford – it's one of those places that really hits the mark for a relaxed pint and a bite to eat. From what I've gathered from folks who've been there, the craft beers are a standout; they're brewed right on the premises, so fresh and full of character, and there are always interesting options to try. Pair that with their delicious food, like the mouthwatering Beer Can Chicken or a classic Sunday roast, and you've got yourself a winner for lunch or dinner. The staff are just lovely, always up for a chat and making sure everyone feels welcome, whether you're nipping in for a coffee or celebrating something special. They've got some great deals too, like affordable pints during happy hour, which makes it easy on the pocket for a cheeky midweek visit. On the flip side, it does feel like the menu could use a few more surprises to keep things exciting – some have suggested adding international flavours to mix it up a bit. All in all, it's a solid choice if you're after a warm, inviting atmosphere with that authentic pub charm, and I'd say it's well worth a visit for anyone in the area looking for good company and even better brews.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The craft beers are freshly brewed on-site and absolutely top-notch, with a great selection that includes award-winning options – perfect for beer enthusiasts looking for something special.
-
The food is spot on, especially their Sunday roasts and that signature Beer Can Chicken; it's hearty, flavoursome, and pairs brilliantly with a pint.
-
Staff are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, always ready to chat about the brews or make your visit memorable, whether you're popping in for a quick lunch or hosting an event.
-
They've got some cracking deals like Burger and Pint Mondays or happy hour pints, making it wallet-friendly for a midweek catch-up.
-
It's a welcoming spot for all sorts of occasions, from casual coffees with WiFi to lively functions and even beer masterclasses – there's always something going on to keep things interesting.
Cons
-
The menu could do with a bit more variety; one visitor mentioned it might benefit from some international twists, like German-style dishes, to shake things up beyond the usual pub fare.
-
Opening times vary a touch, so if you're planning a late-night outing, it might close earlier than expected on certain days, which could be a minor inconvenience.

We had THE most fantastic day. Fab breakfast, a great lunch and around 5 pints of sampled ales and a 5ltr keg to take home. What a brilliant day! Can't wait to go back to sample the ale we 'made'. Rhys' is very knowledgeable and made the day fun. Recommend to everyone!
We visited the pub as my daughter had a dance show in a nearby theatre.
We booked a table and mentioned at booking that we needed to get in and out quickly so she could get back for the evening performance. The staff were unbelievably helpful and supportive to us and the other families that came in to do the same.
The food selection was ideal, for a vegetarian mum and a couple of picky kids.
Thank you so much, and special shout out to Catia who helped us out in particular, although all the staff were lovely.
Late lunch with Three thirds , fish n chips.
Staff friendly and love the way they interact with the customers Especially good was interaction with South African lady and kitchen waitress (could of been a chef as had apron on but no hat)
I chatted to an old boy customer and he said his (beravement) group love the place.
Sure I saw a former 🛠 trying out Geoff Hursts beer
We recently held our baby shower at Brewhouse kitchen, Chelmsford, and it was fantastic. We couldn’t fault a thing. All the staff were so accommodating, before and during our stay. Great service throughout the day and our buffet food was delicious.
I would highly suggest as a venue for an event, or just for a drink and some food with friends.
I didn’t catch every staff members name, but all were great. Katya and Dave were brilliant.
We loved the place. Excellent selection of beer brewed on the premises. If you are selling the premises as a Brewhouse then you might add a continental twist to include Schweinshaxe (German Pork Knuckle) which you find in the Brewhouses in Germany. It would also make change to similar food in nearby pubs which would add to the selling point of visiting the premises. In addition it would be a nice touch to sell the Belgium Beers in the appropriate glass. All the same the place is a great place to visit.
