About This Pub

Ah, Brass Monkey Shore – it's one of those hidden gems in Edinburgh's Leith area that always gets folks chatting. From what I've gathered from reviews, the drinks are an absolute highlight; they've got this brilliant lineup of beers on tap, including some fantastic local brews that keep things fresh and exciting. Pair that with the food, and you're in for a treat – think hearty portions of burgers, roasts, and even solid vegan and vegetarian choices that leave you feeling properly satisfied. The vibe's just lovely too, all cosy and inviting, with space upstairs for a bit more privacy, and it's brilliant that they welcome dogs, so you can pop in with your four-legged mate without a fuss. On the downside, service can be a mixed bag; some visits are made better by friendly, helpful staff, but others have mentioned a few who seem a bit off or not quite on the ball, which is a shame as it can spoil an otherwise great evening. Overall, it's a solid spot worth checking out if you're in the area, especially for a casual pint or a Sunday lunch, but I'd say it's best to go when it's not too heaving to avoid any potential hiccups.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • The food's a real winner – generous portions of tasty options like burgers, roasts, and plenty for veggies and vegans
  • It's got a cosy, welcoming atmosphere that's perfect for a relaxed catch-up with mates
  • Dogs are more than welcome, making it a great spot for those who like to bring their furry friends along
  • The bar area and upstairs seating offer plenty of space to settle in and enjoy yourself
Cons
  • Service can be a bit hit or miss, with some reports of staff being inattentive or a tad rude, which puts a damper on things
  • It might feel a bit cramped at times, especially if you're after a more spacious vibe

My friend and I came here for Sunday lunch and had a mixed experience. It was a very nice and cosy venue and my nachos were pretty good, my friend really enjoyed their roast chicken. One of our waitresses was so lovely and helpful, very friendly but our main waitress was quite rude and inattentive. I could tell she just couldn’t be bothered dealing with us and it was a bit uncomfortable. I think overall it was a good experience but could’ve been better.

Brass monkey is a good pub to go to for a bit of atmosphere but when you don’t want to be too cramped. Selection of drinks are good so caters to a lot of people. I really really like that portions of food are solid. If you order a portion of chips, it’s actually a credible bowl rather than a piddly basket

Stopped off here for a drink and light lunch,it was lovely. Great bar area to front plus upstairs with lots of tables. Cocktails start about £8.00 , haggis bon bons were scrumpy. Dogs welcome.

I've visited here a few times and always enjoy the food, drinks and atmosphere! I had the Sunday roast yesterday which was absolutely delicious! I had the beef which was very tasty and served with an awesome gravy and perfect yorkies. My sister had a veggie option which she said was really good, and different from your usual boring nut roast. My other sister actually said she was obsessed with..the green beans 🤣 I do agree, they were perfectly cooked and perfectly seasoned. We had a few cocktails, which were all fantastic; my mum being an "old fashioned" aficionado, said it was spot on. High praise indeed! All in all, I've never had anything but good experiences here and highly recommend it for a cosy local pub, nice staff, tasty food and great drinks all served alongside an excellent playlist!
