About This Pub

Ah, the Brass Monkey – it's one of those unassuming little pubs that you stumble upon near Victoria station and end up loving. I have to say, the atmosphere is spot on; it's cosy and vibrant without being overwhelming, whether you're nipping in for a quick drink or settling down for some food with friends. The staff are an absolute delight, always up for a friendly chat, and they've got a cracking selection of drinks to choose from, including real ales and now some surprisingly good Korean options that give it a fresh edge. It's brilliantly located for pre-theatre dinners or just grabbing a pint after a long day, and the prices are fair, making it easy on the wallet. On the flip side, it's a shame it's closed on Sundays and doesn't open until later in the day sometimes, so you'll need to plan around that if you're keen to visit. All in all, it's a great little spot for a relaxed evening, but it might not be the place for a rowdy night out – still, I'd recommend giving it a go for that homely pub feel.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The cosy atmosphere is just spot on for a relaxing pint or a catch-up with mates.
  • Friendly staff who really make you feel welcome, even the chef might pop out for a chat.
  • A great selection of real ales, lagers, spirits, and wines, plus they've got some tasty Korean dishes that add a fun twist.
  • Perfectly placed near Victoria station and the theatres, making it ideal for a quick stop before a show or after work.
  • Good value for money with affordable deals, like the ones that make a night out feel like a bargain.
Cons
  • It's closed on Sundays, which is a bit of a letdown if you're after a weekend outing.
  • Opening times can be late, starting from 4pm on some days, so it might not suit early birds.
  • It can be quiet at times, which means it lacks that lively buzz on occasion.
  • They've swapped out the burgers for Korean fare, which might not appeal to everyone looking for traditional pub grub.

Lovely independent pub with cozy atmosphere. Note they no longer do burgers as per previous patrons’ photos but Korean fare instead. Nonetheless, I enjoyed the KFC!

Best pub nr Victoria Station by far. Friendly service and good food and drinks. It seems to be slightly off people’s radar so busy without being overwhelming.

Used to come here in the early 70s for a swift pint or two after work at the old Woolworths across the road. Was known as The Lord Burleigh then. Many a happy evening, and some lunch times, spent here :-)

Nice place to have a drink. Food was good and staff friendly. Loved the alcoholic ice cream. Was very quiet when we went probably due to the very hot weather.

Lovely little pub. Staff were very friendly even the chef came out and spoke to us. Food was gorgeous and great value. 2x beers and burgers for £15 with the deal found on Groupon. It was £8.40 for two bottles of Corona most places in the area were charging £10.
