We called in for a couple of real ales..The staff were lovely, very pleasant and informative, offering great descriptions and tasters of the real ales we were interested in..All were really good! We had a relaxing couple of hours..Thank you to Danny and Eboni, the members of staff who served us!

Called ad-hoc for a drink in the afternoon. Lovely friendly vibe. This is a PROPER old pub pub. Some real history here. Was totally amazed to be shown through a curtain into the back theatre room . A whole other world..complete with block built stage and huge Tiffany style lanterns offering an atmospheric dimly lit Chappel. It was stunning.

This one is a strange pub, and it was mad Friday for my first visit so I'm reviewing in a strange set of circumstances. The pub looks like something that will smith might have visited in wild wild west, it has church pews and purple velvet curtains, it verges on steam punk/boarderland. But it all works, it's a pretty relaxed atmosphere and there's some great drinks on draft. It's not expensive and I had a good time in there. One draw back is the toilets where tiny for the size of the place

We were looking for an old traditional pub and we were not disappointed. Excellent customer service and patience esp I am indecisive what lager, stout or beer to have. Love the reinvention of the old English roast with the roast beef in a Yorkshire batter wrap.

The Black Lion has a good range of beers, larger, and cider they also sell cask conditioned real ales. There is a large bar leading to a brilliant theatre like stage area with a lot of terraced seating and standing area in front of the stage. This pub has the best venue for live music i have seen. It's a great pub.
