About This Pub

Ah, the Black Bear Inn – it's one of those old-school pubs that you can't help but appreciate for its straightforward charm, especially if you're after a pint of that signature Black Bear beer, which I've heard is an absolute belter and a standout feature. It's got that welcoming, no-fuss feel that's perfect for sinking into a comfy corner with mates on a quiet evening or even celebrating something special like Christmas. But honestly, it's not without its flaws; the building's looking a bit tired these days, almost like it's been forgotten, and there are tales of grubby glasses and dodgy toilets that could really dampen the mood. Still, if you're up for overlooking the rough edges, it's a solid choice for a genuine local experience – just go in with realistic expectations and maybe skip it if you're after something more polished.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The beer is absolutely spot on, especially that unique Black Bear brew – it's a real treat and what keeps folks coming back for more.
  • It has a proper traditional pub vibe that's just right for a laid-back pint or even a festive get-together, like a cracking Christmas Day out.
Cons
  • The place looks a bit neglected and could do with a thorough spruce-up; it's starting to feel like it's been left to gather dust.
  • Hygiene isn't up to scratch in some areas, with reports of dirty glasses and grubby toilets that might put you off your drink.
  • It's not the sort of spot you'd choose to wow a mate or date, as it feels a tad outdated and not quite inviting enough.

Great beer and could be an amazing pub if refurbished. It has most certainly changed for the worst. It looks abandoned but is in fact still open to the public.

Certainly a pub of it's time, but manages to keep good beer. But not one to take another to impress. Major refurb and renovation required overdue

Disgusting wine glasses full of dirt I can only describe it as stale dust...toilets dirty never seen a toilet brush and no toilet paper and a dirty wet towel to wipe hands dry!! Only went there because the red cow was shut.....never again not worth even 1 star...but wouldn't let me submit review otherwise.
