About This Pub
Oh, let me tell you about Big Penny Social – it's one of those places that just lights up the neighbourhood in Walthamstow with its massive warehouse vibe and heaps of activities to dive into. From the reviews I've seen, people are raving about how it's such a breath of fresh air, with a relaxed and noisy atmosphere that's perfect for catching up over a pint or enjoying live events like music or comedy. The beer selection is spot on, and they're all about supporting local producers, which gives it that genuine community feel. It's especially lovely how family-oriented it is, letting little ones join in until the evening, so it's not just your typical bar – it's a real social hub. But, to keep it real, the food doesn't always steal the show; it's alright for a quick meal, but a few have mentioned it could do with a bit more flair to match the rest. Plus, with doors shutting around 5pm most days, it might not be the go-to for those evening wind-downs or spontaneous nights out. All in all, if you're up for a daytime gathering or something lively with friends, it's worth a visit – just manage your expectations on the grub and plan accordingly!
Pros and Cons

-
The overall vibe is so friendly and engaging, with plenty of space to mingle and events that bring people together – it's clear this place is all about fostering connections.
Cons
-
The food is decent but doesn't quite hit the mark; it's okay for a bite, but some folks have said it could be more exciting or polished to match the great atmosphere.
-
Opening hours are a bit on the early side, typically wrapping up by 5pm, which might leave you wanting more if you're after a proper late-night session.
-
As an unclaimed business, it might not always have the latest updates or personal touches from the owners, so things could feel a tad inconsistent at times.

Prepare to be Amazed: Big Penny Social is Walthamstow's Wonderland!
Tucked away like a well-kept secret off a quiet back street in Walthamstow, Big Penny Social is an absolute revelation. From the unassuming entrance, you'd never guess the sheer scale and vibrant energy that lies within. Stepping inside is like Alice tumbling down the rabbit hole – you're instantly transported into a vast, open space buzzing with trendy folks, multiple inviting bars, and enticing little eateries dotted around. The atmosphere is electric and effortlessly cool.
But hold on, there's more! Push through another door and BAM! You're in an entirely different massive room, the air thrumming with the energy of live music and DJs. The transitions between these spaces are seamless yet distinct, creating a real sense of discovery as you explore.
And then, just when you think you've seen it all, you stumble upon the courtyard garden. Even on a regular day, it's a lovely outdoor space, but I hear whispers that it magically transforms into a beach during the summer months! A beach in Walthamstow? Seriously, this place is operating on another level.
What truly makes Big Penny Social special is its incredible vibe. It attracts a genuinely mixed age group, creating a lively and inclusive atmosphere where everyone seems to be having a fantastic time. And to top it all off, the drinks are surprisingly reasonably priced for such a unique and impressive venue.
Forget your preconceived notions of a local pub; Big Penny Social is an experience. It's a hidden gem that deserves to be shouted about. If you're in Walthamstow, or even if you're not, make the journey. You won't believe your eyes, and you certainly won't be disappointed. This place is truly out of this world!
We just love coming to Big Penny, although our visits are only a few every year as we travel from Lincoln to see the Basement Orchestra whenever they play there. The atmosphere is extraordinary, relaxed, noisy and friendly with kids welcome to run around and play. The food is great - I always have the steak bavette. It is really something to look forward to. The beers are well kept. I go for the IPA, which is quite strong and robust.
Huge warehouse multi function drinking space. Football, music, comedy, bouncy castle, etc Kids allowed in til 6pm.
Went there for food and a few drinks for a friend's birthday on a Friday night. Fantastic versatile venue with loads of space. Had a very good selection of beers. Very family friendly, even in the evening. Only thing stopping it from 5 stars is the food was okay, not bad at all - just could've been better and it's in the middle of nowhere (but tbf you wouldn't get that space anywhere more central)
Really a cool place! Awesome beer, cool heritage and a sweet BBQ place out front. Happy to have ventured out
