About This Pub
Ah, the Bear Tavern – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a local gem in Smethwick, with its warm exposed brick walls and wooden floors that give it a real homely touch. You'll love how the team behind the bar are usually so chatty and eager to recommend a pint or one of their daily deals, and the food? Well, it's bang on – from a well-presented Sunday roast to a breakfast that's cooked to perfection, all at prices that won't break the bank. It's spot on for catching the big games on their multiple screens, and with family-friendly features like a beer garden and disabled access, it's easy to see why folks keep coming back. But, let's be straight, it's not all roses; parking's a bit of a headache in that area, and there have been a couple of tales about staff not being at their best, which could leave you feeling a bit miffed. Still, overall, it's a solid choice for a relaxed pint or a meal with mates, as long as you go in with realistic expectations.
Pros and Cons
Pros

The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
-
They've got a cracking selection of beers, lagers, wines, and spirits, plus daily deals that keep things affordable.
-
The food is spot on – think tasty Sunday roasts, perfect breakfasts, and great value meals that leave you satisfied.
-
It's a brilliant spot for sports fans with plenty of screens showing live action, including big events like the Women's Euros.
-
Family-friendly vibes with disabled access, a beer garden, and even dog-friendly policies, so everyone's welcome.
-
The historic pub atmosphere, with exposed brick and wooden floors, gives it that cosy, nostalgic charm.
Cons
-
Parking can be a right faff around there, so you might end up walking a bit or relying on public transport.
-
There have been a few reports of less than stellar service from some staff, which can put a dampener on the visit.
-
It might feel a tad quiet at times, especially on certain days, so if you're after a buzzing crowd, it could disappoint.
-
Watch out for the odd overpriced item on the menu, like those scratchings that might not seem worth the quid.

What a hidden gem..
Friendly and attentative staff, good selection of food at very reasonable prices but more importantly tastes great... excellent value for money and your made to feel welcome and appreciated...
Excellent service and very good selection of Les, lagers, wines and spirits. The Sunday roast was well presented and very tasty.
of screens for sports fans. Family friendly with outside seating. Disabled access and roomy for convenience. Parking is difficult, although
easily accessible by public transport. Special offers daily with great options for senior citizens. Well worth a visit, I shall certainly be making many retun visits.
Went to the toilet and chair was away from the door, I continued to use the toilet- as i was using the female manager walked in and spoke rude towards me, after leaving the toilet i was humiliated infront of the pub after being spoken to like a child and disrespected, next time leave a OUT OF USE sign and make it clear pm
Absolutely loverly breakfast cooked to perfection, great value and brilliant service.
Everything was perfect literally!!
Never had a bad meal in the place, the chefs are always on point.
Thank you and heavily recommend this place for food and chilling!!
Quite quiet on my visit, a Sunday in late June. I had a good pint of IPA for 4.70. I did order a bag of scratchings, but refused them when I was told they were £1.80.
Nice outdoor terrace with screens. Plenty of screens inside. Worth another look
