About This Pub

Ah, Bell Harborne – it's one of those pubs that really captures that classic British charm, tucked away in Harborne with its historic coaching inn vibes. From what I've gathered from folks who've popped in, it's an absolute treat for a relaxed afternoon or evening; the staff are genuinely lovely, always making sure you're looked after, and the real ales and outdoor beer garden are just the ticket for soaking up the sun with mates. The Sunday roasts get high praise too, sounding like a proper hearty option for family gatherings. On the flip side, though, it's not all perfect – some have mentioned the food can be hit or miss, with a few meals not living up to expectations, and the prices for drinks like a simple Coke or pint might make you think twice if you're watching the pennies. Overall, it's a solid choice for a good old pub experience, but I'd say go for the atmosphere and drinks first, and maybe keep expectations in check for the grub. It's all about balance, isn't it?

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The pub has a lovely traditional feel, like stepping into a cosy country inn that's been around for centuries.
  • Friendly and attentive staff who make you feel right at home, always ready with a smile and helpful service.
  • A great selection of real ales and drinks, perfect for those who appreciate a good pint in a relaxed setting.
  • The beer garden is a real gem for sunny days, with plenty of outdoor seating to enjoy the fresh air.
  • Sunday roasts and family-friendly vibes make it a brilliant spot for a hearty meal with loved ones.
Cons
  • Food quality can be a bit inconsistent – some dishes fall short, so it might not always hit the mark.
  • Prices for drinks and possibly food are on the steeper side, which could make it feel a tad pricey for what you get.
  • It can get quite busy, especially for popular events, so you might need to plan ahead to avoid disappointment.

It's a nice pub in a lovely area. I will definitely return for drinks again, but unfortunately the food wasn't that good. Out of the five of us that ate, the average score was 4 out of 10! We will stick to crisps with our drinks next time.

The reason for the 4 stars is the price of the beer and soft drinks. £3.50 is way too expensive for a coke! and my friends said the beer is far too expensive. Other than that it's a lovely pub.

A “walk-in” Sunday roast. The manager squeezed us in even though fully booked. Service was fantastic and the quality of food even better. Wonderful experience on a beautiful day. Well done.

Visited on a Sunday afternoon for a roast. Really cosy little pub which was a great place to while away a Sunday afternoon, cosy, comfortable and warm with a very typical British pub decor. It actually gave me a very countryside pub vibe which I found quite whimsical. The food available was a little short of the full menu as it was clearly very busy with most tables being reserved. I wasn't able to have the beef roast or cauliflower cheese (unfortunately) but I went for the lamb instead (which was delicious). The food was very good, personally I would have liked a larger portion of meat but for the price it was perfectly acceptable, you are able to request more veg if required for no additional cost. The service was really good and the staff were friendly. I would definitely recommend this pub and wouldn't hesitate to visit again.

Nice cosy old school pub with a good variety of drinks and a lovely menu. Friendly service and attentive staff. Me & my family always have great meals here. We have been for lunch, evening meals, and even breakfasts on Sat/Sun mornings! They are always good at altering meals for our requests (such as chips instead of mash, gravy on the side etc) and there is always something for our family members who are gluten-free & diary-free. We have had birthday meals here as well, even for groups as much as 12 (but obviously booked in advance as a large group) & it's always enjoyable and a good atmosphere in the pub. Great beer garden with plenty of seats, outdoor heaters, flower beds, a bowling green, and all with such a pretty backdrop of a church and mighty old trees. It's definitely a hidden gem! The pub is an old coaching station inn, so the only thing is that the bar corridor can be tight for space when there is a queue for the bar, but everyone is always in good spirits to get past each other if needed, etc. Plus, it is all part of the pubs old school charm! So go with a smile and enjoy the buildings history as well as the food and drink. 😉
