About This Pub

You know, chatting about Desi 2 over a pint, I'd say it's got that charm of a proper local haunt with some cracking food options that have won over quite a few regulars – think mouth-watering curries and grills that hit the spot, especially if you're after something hearty before watching the footie. The vibe's generally upbeat with friendly faces behind the bar and a telly on for the big matches, and it's all at prices that won't sting too much. But, and I have to be straight with you, there've been some grumbles recently; a couple of mates mentioned dodgy service where the staff weren't as helpful as you'd hope, and the odd dish falling flat, like that butter chicken that didn't quite deliver. Plus, with the place looking a tad tired and even up for sale, it might not feel as reliable as it once did. Still, given its solid overall rating, I'd reckon it's worth giving it a go if you're in Smethwick, just keep an open mind and maybe stick to the crowd-pleasers – after all, a good night out's about rolling with the punches, isn't it?

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely spot on – especially the curries and grills, which folks can't stop raving about; it's proper delicious and feels like a real treat.
  • The staff can be really friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home, and they're spot on with recommendations.
  • It's a brilliant place to catch live sports like football or boxing while enjoying a meal, adding to that lively pub atmosphere.
  • With inexpensive prices, it's easy on the pocket, so you can pop in without breaking the bank.
Cons
  • Some recent visits have been disappointing with certain dishes not living up to expectations, like the butter chicken tasting off or more like something else entirely.
  • A few people have mentioned rude staff and a generally unwelcoming vibe, which can really put a dampener on the evening.
  • The place looks a bit run-down from the outside and has that for-sale sign, plus there's been talk of odd smells, making it feel less inviting.
  • Lately, it's had some rough feedback, with a couple of low ratings suggesting it might not be at its best right now.

I’m giving a 1star because I liked the chicken tikka, the butter chicken was pathetic as it tasted more like dal curry with chicken in it. Very rude staffs. Went in with high expectations and now left with regret. Waste of time and money.

Went with family for my birthday tru someplace new. Can't even score this place. Saw from outside place is for sale so that was red flag number one. Red flag number 2 it looked run down from the front. Final red flag (and the biggest one) we walked in and my first thought based on the smell of ammonia and mustiness thought the toilets were close to the main entrance (which is fair enough). It wasnt. The smell permeated all the way through the place, even the restaurant/eating area. We could only take so much and immediately left, with the smell of mustiness and urine on our clothes and in our noses. Needs demolishing it's that bad. I have drunk in some run down pubs but never experienced it this bad. Unless they get the carpets cleaned and the place fumigated I would hate to think due to the manner of poor hygiene how it would affect anyone who eats there!! AVOID!!

I genuinely don't no where to start!! I've been going into the desi 2 for very long time, the food is unbelievable, chefs are unbeatable, I request my curry sauce nice and thick, I am very fussy when it comes to my food and these guys at the desi 2 are unbelievable talent when making curries, I highly recommend this place, I genuinely don't go anywhere else for curry apart from the desi, Dee in the kitchen is bang on keep the good work up guys! Five stars from me 👏

My son invited me up to the Midlands to watch the match. He told me that we would be meeting up in the Desi 2. Prior to going to the game we would have a meal whilst there. I did look up the reviews on this place the day before and ended up going to Desi 2 with an open mind. I can only assume that the negative reviews about this place are not real ones as the food was amazing, hot and very tasty. I must also point out that the cost of the food was reasonably priced - A large mixed grill and a medium mixed grill for £28. I would recommend this place to anyone in or visiting the area as you are made welcome and with a pint of lager (Stella, Madri and Carling) costing only £3, though I was informed that it was matchday prices only you can't go wrong.
