About This Pub
Ah, the Barleycorn, it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local hideaway in Slough, you know? I have to say, what stands out most is their fantastic lineup of real ales and ciders – it's no wonder they've snagged awards for it. The vibe is warm and welcoming, with live music, beer festivals, and all the big sports on the telly, making it a top spot for a laugh with friends or even hosting a small do in their function room. They've got outdoor areas and are super dog-friendly, which is brilliant for a sunny day pint. On the flip side, though, there was that one review mentioning a bit of a rough encounter with the owner over the phone, so it's worth keeping in mind that service can vary. Overall, it's an affordable, down-to-earth place that does the traditional pub experience really well, but it might not suit if you're expecting something more refined. If you're in the area, I'd definitely pop in for a drink and see what you think – it's got that genuine charm that makes you want to come back.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
They've got a cracking selection of real ales, lagers, and ciders, including being CAMRA's cider pub of the year – perfect for anyone who appreciates a proper pint.
-
The atmosphere is just what you'd hope for in a traditional village pub, with friendly staff, live music, and events like beer festivals that really bring the community together.
-
It's dog-friendly with a garden, patio, and parking, making it a welcoming spot for a relaxed afternoon or evening out.
-
They show all the major sporting events and have fun extras like a pool table, dart board, and even a private function room for hire – ideal for gatherings.
Cons
-
There was that one off-putting experience where someone got a rude phone call from the owner, which might leave a sour taste if you're not lucky with your interactions.
-
The operating hours seem a bit muddled in places, so it's worth double-checking before you head over to avoid any disappointment.
-
While it's generally affordable, it might not feel quite as polished as some fancier spots, so if you're after something more upscale, it could fall short.

Lovely place with own brewery. Had a live music too
First time in this pub and overall it's what a traditional pub should be like. Nothing to fancy but good atmosphere and friendly service. They served a decent pint to 👍🏻😉
Great pub with a nice of ales and ciders and a warm welcome
Rang the pub to see if it was open due to the website saying hours may differ, received a prank call voicemail as a response before getting through. Then my partner received a phone call from the owner him self being rude and swearing, All the phone call was recorded. Very rude phone call, rude ownership.will not be going in there
Fabulous place next to a village pond, complete with ducks. Came here 16th June '22 for a wake as it was the local of the deceased. We were looked after all afternoon/evening by the lovely Sara (?), who made us feel really welcome. Great regulars, young & old alike, really made the occasion special. Very clean village boozer - a proper pub for proper folk.
Many thanks - M & J -your new friends in Nottingham...
