About This Pub

Ah, Balaclava Bar in Aberdeen – it's one of those places that feels like a proper local haunt, you know? From what I've gathered from the reviews, it's got this warm, community vibe where the staff go out of their way to make everyone feel at ease, and the food and drinks are generally spot on, with a good selection that keeps things interesting. I love the idea of popping in early for a pint to shake off the morning fog, and the live music on Saturdays sounds like a real treat for a relaxed afternoon. On the other hand, it's a shame about the prices creeping up a bit; you might find yourself thinking twice before ordering another round. Plus, it can be quiet at times, which is fine if you're after a peaceful chat, but not so great for a lively night out, and that early closing time is a bit of a downer if you're not ready to call it a day. All in all, it's a decent spot for a casual visit if you're in the area, but it's worth weighing up those pros and cons to see if it suits what you're after – honest to goodness, it's got charm, but it's not without its quirks.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food and drinks are really solid, with some great selections that hit the spot.
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home from the get-go.
  • It opens early in the morning, which is brilliant if you're an early riser or dealing with jet lag.
  • It's got that authentic, traditional pub atmosphere that's true to its roots and full of character.
  • Live music on Saturdays adds a fun, lively touch that can make for a great afternoon out.
Cons
  • Prices can feel a bit steep for what you get, leaving you wondering if it's worth the extra quid.
  • It sometimes feels a tad quiet or empty, especially during off-peak times, which might not suit those after a buzzing vibe.
  • The place shuts early at around 8pm, so it's not ideal if you're in the mood for a late-night session.
  • With no website or online presence, it's a bit of a faff to get the latest details before heading over.

Food is good, maybe a little bit overpriced. But it's fine

Visited over Christmas and the place was empty. Nothing new or great to be fair, got a pint here then moved on. N.B as of December 2019 this pub has been closed for a while now.

Long established Independent Pub.in Aberdeen. True to the roots - established clientele. Early opening time for killing 'Jet-Lag'. Accommodating bar staff. Excellent service, prices and selection. Straight up and forth. If you are a poser. You will be humbled by giving your opinion. Just make sure you are not a bluffer. You will be sorted.

Working man's bar, but very friendly. Opens early in morning so shuts at 8pm due to licencing rules. Very busy on Saturday afternoons as has live music.
