About This Pub

Oh, let me tell you about Anglers Arms – it's this lovely family-run spot in the heart of Northumberland, where they really shine with their homemade grub and that inviting riverside beer garden. You'd love the fresh, tasty meals, from classic pub dishes to those mouth-watering Sunday roasts, and it's so welcoming for families and even your furry friends. The accommodation feels just like a home away from home, with cosy rooms and a brekkie to start your day right. But, and I have to be straight with you, it's not all smooth sailing; some folks have had a tough time with unresponsive staff during late check-ins or noisy nights that keep you up. Then there are the odd complaints about cold food or booking mix-ups that can sour the experience. Overall, it's got that warm community vibe going for it, but I'd suggest keeping an eye on the details if you're planning a visit – it's worth it for the good bits, as long as you're prepared for a few potential hiccups.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The homemade meals are an absolute treat, made with top-notch ingredients and full of flavour – perfect for a hearty pub lunch or dinner.
  • It's a welcoming spot for families and dogs, with a cosy atmosphere that makes you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • That riverside beer garden is a gem, especially on a sunny day, where you can relax with a cold drink and soak up the beautiful Northumberland scenery.
  • The accommodation is homely and comfortable, with en-suite rooms and a complimentary breakfast, ideal for a short stay or exploring the area.
Cons
  • There have been some issues with late check-ins, like doors being locked and no one answering calls, which can really put a dampener on your plans.
  • Noise from the pub, including music and arguments late into the night, has bothered some guests in the rooms, making for a restless sleep.
  • Food service isn't always spot on, with complaints about meals arriving cold, like those disappointing Sunday roasts that didn't live up to expectations.
  • Booking problems crop up now and then, such as being told the place is fully booked despite having a reservation, which is frustrating for visitors.

Had booked a room for 1 night 23-24 May. This was supposed to be sleepover during driving trip from Edinburgh to London. Arrived there in the evening, around 7pm, all doors were locked, despite selecting late check-in when making the booking. Called number provided, nobody answered. Saw lights on at the house behind the main building, rang the bell and just saw someone from inside to shut the curtains. Horrible experience, can't believe someone who runs a hotel would ever do that. Very very poor! Just to add, booking was made through Google hotels, and booking confirmation received straight away, therefore all looked fine. Only now gone through other reviews and saw one saying the place closed, but still take bookings!?

Spacious room. Clean. Very warm. However I won't stay again. I understand that the room was above a pub but I don't understand the music shouting and arguing at 2 in the morning. I don't normally write such negative reviews but there was no one in the pub in the morning to speak to.

Worst Sunday dinner ever, the ambience is terrible. We ordered trio of meats and the meat what there was of it was the only nice thing on the plate. The food came out cold, 1 of the plates got reheated and the other 4 people chose to eat there’s cold as not to cause a fuss. The roast potatoes were like plastic and when we complained the extra potion was still on our bill at the end. We had originally ordered the 2 course so after the main meal ordered a pudding. After waiting 40 minutes without them arriving we decided not to bother and get the bill. It was a dreadful experience and will not be returning for that reason we give it a 1 star.

Make of this review what you will, but myself and my family turned up on the evening before the Great North Run having booked directly months in advance and having validated the booking 2 weeks beforehand. We were advised by the manager that they were fully booked with all rooms occupied, despite the email evidence showing confirmation of our booking. So there we were, 10pm at a night, when all other accommodation in the vicinity was booked up, being shown the door. Absolutely shambolic.

Absolutely outstanding friendly place situated in a stunning scenic location that makes the place a must. Staff are really friendly and nothing seems a problem with customer service as it should be. The food is gorgeously fresh and to die for. The rooms are comfortable and situated on the first floor. Breakfast available with a variety of hot and cold foods. The bar seemed friendly with a well arranged bar with all the usual drinks and a variety of gins and spirits available. A must venue for family's and couples alike with stunning walks and views to enjoy. Thanks.
