About This Pub
Ah, Alexanders – it's one of those places that really warms you up with its charming vibe and top-notch service; the staff go above and beyond to make sure you're looked after, and the food hits the spot with its good flavours and presentation, especially if you're staying at the nearby hotel. It's perfect for a casual get-together or a quiet meal with a view that adds a nice touch to the experience. That said, it's not all rosy – the costs can mount up faster than you'd expect, leaving you questioning if it's worth the spend, and with a menu that's a bit on the slim side, you might not find exactly what you're craving. Still, if you're in the area and fancy a reliable spot with friendly faces, it's worth a punt, but I'd suggest keeping an eye on the bill to avoid any surprises.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff at Alexanders are absolutely brilliant – they're friendly, attentive, and make you feel right at home, which really adds to the whole experience.
-
The food is genuinely tasty and well-presented; I've heard great things about the desserts, like that chocolate brownie, and it's a solid choice if you're after something hearty near the hotel.
-
It's set in a lovely old building with stunning views, making it a great spot for a relaxed meal or catch-up with mates in Kendal.
Cons
-
The prices can feel a bit steep for what you get – that £11 burger adds up quickly, and some have mentioned the total bill being shocking for a meal that doesn't quite match the cost.
-
The menu's a tad limited, so if you're after a wide range of options, you might find yourself wanting more variety.
-
There have been a few niggles with things like drinks not being spot on the first time, and overall, the value for money doesn't always hit the mark, which could leave you feeling a bit short-changed.

Staff were absolutely great couldn’t fault them !
However the burger you see on its own cost me £11 …. The total bill was £66 this was including desserts. I think value for money is shocking , especially when you can go into Kendal spend the same on a meal for the 2 of you and come out of the restaurant full ….
Wouldn’t return again
Went for lunch on Saturday meeting up with family to catch up over a meal. Found it on Google and went off the reviews, an unfortunate mistake.
Set in a nice location a lovely looking old building that has been well set up as a small restaurant.
Drinks were fine although on the fist attempt one was forgotten and an incorrect drink brought later on when ordering another round one was forgotten altogether but by that point reminded the server and asking for it just wasn't in anybody as we'd had the food.
The menu, make sure you don't look at the hotel one by accident it will give you a false sense of quality. Personally I had the stake pie and chips with veg and gravy. Cooked throughly everything seemed straight out of a supermarket freezer section save the gravy which I dought was even bisto.
Others got through and I'm afraid I have nothing more positive to share from them.
As convenient and nice as it seems we will not be returning.
This is a great place to eat if you want something close to your hotel. The staff were really friendly and attentive. The menu has limited choice but the food was good and well presented. Prices are slightly expensive for what you get but overall we would definitely eat here again.
Stayed at the Castle Green on our weekend to the Lake District and the reception booked us in to Alexanders. We were very impressed with the experience. The staff are very friendly and the food was delicious. Especially the chocolate brownie!
I hope we can visit again soon.
Amazing restaurant with great service and food to die for, with views like that to back it up what more can you ask for
