About This Pub

Ah, the Ailsa Tavern in Twickenham – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem, tucked away in a leafy spot near the rugby stadium. I've got to say, it's brilliant for soaking up the atmosphere before a big match; the screens showing live sports make it a favourite for footie or rugby enthusiasts, and the beer garden is an absolute treat on a sunny day, with heaters to keep you cosy when the weather turns. The food's a real highlight too – think hearty Sunday roasts with generous, tasty portions that leave you satisfied, and they've got a nice range of beers to wash it all down. It's wonderfully family-friendly, so you don't have to worry about bringing the kids along for a bite. That said, it can be a tad quiet when you're hoping for a bit more energy, especially if you're visiting outside of event times, and while everything's solid, it's more about straightforward pub grub than anything groundbreaking. Overall, it's a welcoming spot that strikes a nice balance, and I'd recommend popping in for a pint and a chat – you might just end up staying longer than planned with the live music and events on offer.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • It's got a really welcoming, traditional vibe that's perfect for a relaxed pint or a catch-up with mates, especially in that spacious beer garden with heaters for those chilly evenings.
  • They're spot on with the sports – showing BT Sport and Sky Sports on big screens, and it's a top spot for rugby fans near Twickenham stadium for pre or post-match vibes.
  • The food is spot on, with generous portions of tasty Sunday roasts and a good selection of beers, including cask ales, making it a solid choice for a hearty meal.
  • Family-friendly atmosphere means you can bring the little ones along without any fuss, and they've got live music and events that keep things lively.
  • Being in a leafy suburb, it's easy to get to and has that historic charm with a romantic backstory – adds a bit of character to your visit.
Cons
  • It can sometimes feel a bit quiet when you're expecting a buzz, like during off-peak times or before big events, which might disappoint if you're after a lively crowd.
  • While it's generally relaxed, the variety of drinks and food options seems straightforward rather than extensive, so if you're looking for something fancy, it might not hit the mark.

We were recommended the Ailsa Tavern by The Scrummage when trying to book a table for lunch before attending The Rugby Premiership Final at Twickenham Stadium. We booked a table outside with our two young children and got an Uber easily from the train station which took under 5 mins. The atmosphere, the service and food were all lovely! The home cooked food was delicious, well priced and set us up for a lovely day! Another great find for our rugby away days!

Visited whilst on the way to a game at Twickenham. Expected it to be livelier but was quiet. Good beers on tap and plenty of other choices too. Tidy and good beer garden to enjoy the sun.

Well done to the Alisa Tavern nestled between Isleworth and Twickenham. A great pub and restaurant. A proper traditional pub with a very welcoming feel to it. A Shepherd Neame offering, done with an eye on the local patron, all well executed. A fine selection of keg beers and a couple of cask ales on my visit although, to my surprise, no Spitfire (cask badge turned so, usually on offer) on either count. The staff are amazing and so much fun. A delightful pub, recommended by me ( please do not let that put you off!)

Had Sunday Roast. Roast Lamb. It was a good plateful, generous portions, and tasty too! Was only going to have a quick meal and a pint, but ended up staying 4.5 hours! There was a charity event going on, WImbledon Men’s Final was on the TV, and there was some great live music too. Had a really enjoyable afternoon!
