About This Pub

Ah, Yuwies Good Food – it's one of those places that just feels like a reliable mate for when you're in the mood for something hearty without the fuss. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the breakfast options are where they really shine; think top-notch bagels loaded with turkey rashers or muffins that make you forget all about the supermarket ones. The pulled lamb is another winner, all tender and full of flavour, and that coco bread is just divine on its own. The staff seem to go the extra mile with their polite and consistent service, which always makes a visit more enjoyable. On the flip side, though, the jerk chicken didn't quite live up to the hype for a few – it's alright, but if you're after that real fiery kick, you might be left wanting more. And let's be honest, the prices can sting a bit, especially when you're paying around £8-9 for a meal, so it's worth budgeting for. Overall, it's a gem in Small Heath for a quick, tasty bite, but it might not be the place for a fancy sit-down affair. If you're popping by, I'd say give the breakfast a go – you won't regret it!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely spot on, with highlights like the wonderfully soft coco bread and tender pulled lamb that really hit the spot.
  • They've got a great selection for breakfast and brunch, using high-quality ingredients like fresh bagels and muffins that feel a cut above the usual.
  • The service is consistently polite and welcoming, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • It's open early and runs seven days a week, which is brilliant if you're after a proper meal to start your day, especially before other places get going.
Cons
  • The jerk chicken can be a bit underwhelming – it's tasty enough, but it doesn't pack the spicy punch some folks might hope for.
  • Prices are on the higher end for what you get, so it might feel a tad steep if you're watching your wallet.
  • As a takeaway spot, it lacks that cosy sit-down atmosphere you sometimes crave for a relaxed meal.

The coco bread is wonderfully soft and so delicious, it’s perfect even without any fillings. The pulled lamb is tender and packed with flavor but the jerk chicken is just ok, as I was expecting a stronger and spicier punch.

I went to the restaurant during the morning, it was open well before many others and serving items such as chips/ meals at that time - for that reason I was willing to pay what i felt was a rather high price for the food, each meal was roughly £8-9. The food itself was actually rather nice, it was clearly not filled with preservatives, it was wholesome and made from basic ingredients, which honestly, was a welcome change, it did not have has much flavour as a cheap burger, but it was not a cheap burger, it tasted healthy, it tasted like what the body should expect when the mind thinks of chicken. The atmosphere of the restaurant was excellent, the customer service was top notch and I liked how humble the staff were. Is it the kind of place I would go to often? No, but I do not often spend this much on food although I made an exception for this, it was nice as an experience.

This place is a hidden gem for great breakfast. The quality of the bagels and muffins is high and not your typical supermarket brands. The combo of cheese with my turkey rashers and friend's sausage bagel and muffin (yep he went for two) was top quality. I think I could had easily had two myself. Coffee was a little too strong but the team were very helpful and added more frothy milk to my cup. Definitely a default breakfast location for me and the old men 😀
