About This Pub

Ah, York Tap, what a gem it is for us pub lovers! I have to say, from what I've gathered from the buzz around it, this place really shines with its incredible beer selection – think top-drawer cask ales and craft brews that keep you coming back for more. It's bang in the middle of York station, which is brilliant if you're on the go or just nipping in between sights, and that stunning Edwardian building gives it such a warm, inviting feel. The staff sound like absolute stars, always on hand to make you feel welcome and help you pick the perfect drink. Plus, those bar nibbles, especially the pork pies, add a nice little extra to your visit. On the flip side, though, the website's a bit of a mixed bag with some odd casino content that doesn't quite fit, and being in a station means it can get a tad hectic with all the hustle and bustle – not ideal if you're after a quiet corner. Still, overall, it's got that solid 4.4 rating for a reason, and from the recent rave reviews, it seems like a top choice for a relaxed drink or a quick stop-off. If you're in York, I'd definitely recommend giving it a go; it's one of those places that balances tradition with a bit of excitement, making for a memorable pint or two.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The beer selection is absolutely top-notch, with a fantastic range of cask ales, craft beers, and even international brews – it's a real treat for any beer enthusiast.
  • Its location right in York station makes it incredibly convenient, whether you're waiting for a train or just popping in after exploring the city.
  • The historic Edwardian building adds a lovely touch of character; it's a beautiful spot that makes you feel like you're stepping back in time while enjoying a pint.
  • The staff are really welcoming and attentive, always ready with recommendations or a friendly chat to enhance your visit.
  • They've got some delightful bar nibbles, like those tasty pork pies from The York Pie Company, which pair perfectly with a drink.
Cons
  • The website seems a bit muddled with irrelevant content about online casinos, which might put some folks off or make it hard to find what you're after.
  • With it being in a busy station, things can get quite noisy and crowded at times, especially during peak hours, so it might not be the most relaxing spot.
  • The operating status mentioned as 'close' is a bit confusing – though the schedule says it's open most days, it could hint at occasional reliability issues that might catch you out.

Stopped by while staying in York because it was near the railway museum, wasn't expecting much but I ended up staying for a while because the cask ale selection is great, probably the best of any pub I visited during a week in North England! It's inside the station so you can watch the trains go by.

Phenomenal real ale station pub with 18+ real ales, with Timothy Taylor's range being permanently on. A wide range of regional beers available in excellent condition. Staff attentive and welcoming adding to a wonderful Edwardian building. Worth calling in for a few hours or a drink before or after your train arrives. Cannot fault this place.

Been twice in 2015 and 2025. taproom extraordinaire and stationside patio! Great selection for of cask drawn ales to die for 😍 and definitely grab a pork pie either to enjoy with your pint pr while you walk to the Minster 😉. Had a few full pints earlier then a few half pints to try them all.

York Tap is an absolute gem for beer lovers! Located right by the train station, it’s the perfect spot to enjoy a drink before or after a journey. The bar boasts an incredible selection of craft beers, cask ales, and international brews—always fresh and well-kept. The historic building adds so much charm, with its high ceilings, beautiful tiling, and relaxed vibe. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and happy to recommend something new if you're unsure what to try. Whether you're a local or just passing through, York Tap is a must-visit. Great drinks, great service, and a fantastic atmosphere—what more could you ask for?

Popped in here while I was waiting to catch the ghost bus tour. I noticed they had a beer from the titanic brewery that I hadn’t tried before, which was a cherry porter, and this is now my new favourite, having enjoyed the plum porter for many years, this addition was really enjoyable, in a really nice location with a great atmosphere and good service.
