About This Pub

Ah, BrewDog York – what a gem it is, tucked away on Micklegate just a stone's throw from the historic city centre. I've got to say, if you're a fan of craft beer, this place really delivers; they've got an incredible lineup of brews that change up regularly, so there's always something new to try, and it pairs beautifully with their mouthwatering pizzas and other grub. The staff are an absolute delight – think friendly chats and expert advice that make you feel like you're catching up with mates. It's got this great, spacious layout with different areas for whatever mood you're in, whether it's a quiet corner or a bit more of a buzz. On the flip side, the hours can feel a tad early for those evening plans that stretch on, and being a chain means it might not have that super personal touch some folks crave. All in all, though, it's a solid spot for a fun night out – I'd pop in for the beer and stay for the vibes, but keep an eye on the time if you're planning a longer session.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The craft beer selection is absolutely brilliant – they've got a fantastic range of IPAs, stouts, and more from BrewDog and other top breweries, with fresh releases keeping things exciting.
  • The food is spot on; those sourdough pizzas are a real treat, with new toppings and classics that pair perfectly with a pint, plus tasty melts, subs, and snacks for a quick bite.
  • The staff are so friendly and knowledgeable; whether it's recommending a beer or running a fun beer school session, they make you feel right at home.
  • It's a surprisingly spacious spot with a great atmosphere, split into cosy rooms that give a nice mix of vibes, ideal for a relaxed catch-up or a lively night out.
  • They've got engaging experiences like beer tastings and events, which add a fun twist and make it more than just your average pub visit.
Cons
  • The opening hours can be a bit limiting; it seems to wrap up earlier than you'd expect for a pub, which might disappoint if you're after a late-night session.
  • As part of a chain, it doesn't have that quirky, one-of-a-kind charm of some independent spots, so if you're seeking something truly unique, it might not hit the mark.
  • From what I've seen, options for those with dietary needs are mentioned, but it could be clearer or more varied to make everyone feel fully catered for.

We did the ale/beer school and it was brilliant. Beers were matched with an amazing selection of cheeses. Our ‘teacher’ - whose name I’ve unfortunately forgotten (clearly too much ale!!) was friendly and knowledgeable and the whole experience was great fun.

Pizzas were amazing, I had mighty meaty and my wife had sausage and caramelised onion pizza. Free pint of Punk IPA as it was my birthday

While touring around York, we came across this lovely Brewdog, so we stopped in for a pint, but as we'd had a late lunch, we did not have any food. The inside is split into comfortable, separate rooms, providing slightly different ambiances. We talked for a bit with Fraser, who introduced us to Brewdog's new "passport" reward.system. He was very friendly and knowledgeable, a very big thank you to Fraser!
