About This Pub
Ah, the Wood House – it's one of those pubs that just draws you in with its cosy charm and friendly feel, tucked away in Dulwich near Sydenham Wood. From what I've gathered from folks who've been there recently, it's really stepping up under new management, with top-notch service and delicious grub like hearty Sunday roasts or that mouthwatering fried Haddock sandwich. The outdoor garden's a lovely spot for a summer drink, and it's brilliantly dog-friendly, which is a bonus if you're out with your four-legged mate. But, let's be honest, it's not all roses; a few reviews mentioned things like dirty tables and seats that hadn't been sorted from the previous night, which can take the shine off things a bit. Plus, the prices are a tad steep for what you get, so it might not be the go-to for a quick, cheap night out. Overall, though, if you're after a proper pub experience with good food and a welcoming atmosphere, it's worth a visit – just keep those upkeep issues in mind and maybe plan for a slightly pricier tab.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The atmosphere is absolutely lovely – it's warm, welcoming, and full of cosy nooks that make you feel right at home.
-
The food's a real highlight; I've heard brilliant things about the Sunday lunches and that fried Haddock sandwich – proper tasty and well-prepared.

It's super dog-friendly, with massive treats for your furry friends, which is perfect if you're out for a walk in nearby Sydenham Wood.
-
Service has picked up under the new management; they're making it a welcoming spot with competent staff and a great selection of drinks.
-
Location's spot on, just a stone's throw from Sydenham Wood, making it an ideal stop after a wander in the greenery, and they've got both indoor and outdoor spaces to enjoy.
Cons
-
Some areas could do with a bit more attention, like tables in the garden not being cleaned properly from the night before.
-
It's on the pricey side for food, which might put off those looking for a more budget-friendly pint and bite.
-
There have been mentions of the place not feeling as well cared for as it used to, with a few grubby spots that dampen the experience.

Now the pub is under new management the level of service, welcome and food is excellent. Neil and Lucy are whipping this place into shape and it shows. I had the fried Haddock sandwich on soft granary bread with a side of fries and it was great, with just enough tartare sauce and a pot of Ketchup and mayo for the fries. Service was fast and friendly and the garden area was a nice place to spend the afternoon. Give this place a try you won’t regret it.
First visit for a while and doesn’t seem as well cared for as it used to be.
Tables in the garden were not clean from the night before despite it being early afternoon and there were three people behind the bar.
Not expecting much but having to clear crisps off the seat is not what I expect. Bottles and other rubbish also under tables.
The only positive is the beer is still well kept.
I really like this place. Great decor, lovely cosy spaces. It feels warm, welcoming and it's friendly. Good choice of food, but pricey! It's conveniently located a couple of minutes away from Sydenham Wood, making it a wonderful stop after a wonder in wilderness!!
Haven't been here since 2019. Did not disappoint. Delicious Sunday lunch, I had lamb and hubby had belly pork. Totally dog friendly with massive treats for them. Superb selection of booze and drinks served by competent staff.
Outstanding place, if you are looking for a cozy and local vibe outside your 4 walls.
In the middle of a residential area, you will find this “huge” pub which offers an indoor and outdoor space, cozy little theme hubs and an internal restaurant.
The restaurant close at 10pm (kitchen at 9pm) but you can always move to the pub afterwards. Food was great! We tried the typical Sunday roast and it didn’t disappoint! Both beef and chicken were very tender and the plates were very generous, heads down to che chef 🙌🏽
Will definitely coming back!
