About This Pub
Oh, The Bricklayers Arms, or 'The Brick' as the locals call it – it's got that timeless appeal of a proper old-school South London boozer that's been around since the 19th century. I have to say, it's one of those places that just draws you in with its friendly atmosphere and a solid range of drinks that'll satisfy any taste, from real ales to ciders and even non-alcoholic options. The staff are absolute stars, always on hand with a smile and quick service, and it's brilliant how they've made it so welcoming for dogs and families alike. You'll find loads of nooks and crannies to settle into, whether you're watching the footie on the wall-to-wall tellies or enjoying a quiz night with mates. On the flip side, the building does show its age a bit with some mismatched bricks from all those wartime repairs, and while the bar snacks hit the spot for a quick bite, it's not the place for a full-blown dinner. Still, it's affordably priced and has that genuine community buzz that you don't find everywhere these days – honestly, if you're in the area, it's well worth a visit for a relaxed pint or to catch up on the latest events.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
It's got a fantastic selection of real ales and beers that are always well-kept and fairly priced, making it a treat for any beer enthusiast.
-
The staff are incredibly friendly and efficient, giving that proper welcoming vibe that makes you feel right at home from the get-go.
-
Dog-friendly setup means you can pop in with your four-legged mate without any fuss, which is a lovely touch for us animal lovers.
-
Plenty of space with different rooms and areas, perfect whether you're nipping in for a quiet pint, catching up with mates, or watching the footie on the telly.
-
A real community feel with events like quizzes, live music, and sports screenings, plus things like the meat raffle on Sundays – it's buzzing and inclusive.
Cons
-
The building's got a bit of history with some quirky repairs from its wartime past, so it might feel a tad worn in places and not as polished as newer spots.
-
Food options are mostly limited to bar snacks, so if you're after a proper meal, you might need to head elsewhere rather than staying put.
-
It can get lively during big sports events, which is great if that's your thing, but it might be a bit too noisy for a relaxed chat on those days.

Adorable place, very nice people. Interior is broken up in quite an appealing way. Modest but pleasant back patio with a couple of covered booths. Looks like a little stage in the corner too.
Relatively new to the area but both husband and I have frequented quite few times. Great pub with great service and great drinks! Has a real community feel about the place. Happy to have this place so local as not many of these establishments around anymore.
A real old school south London pub. Great pint of ale and friendly service. Dog friendly too!
Classic community pub, old and new locals mixing alike. Most affordable pint in the area with lots of variety on tap. This place is like a tardis lots of different areas if you’re popping in with a partner, group of friends, watching sport or for a solo. Feels very comfortable and staff are welcoming. Also there’s a fish man with potted prawns etc- can’t beat that!
Sky Sports, dartboard, jukebox, beer, local customers! In my opinion, 5 of the best features a pub can have!
Decent selection of beer choice on tap and on bottle, non-alcoholic beer too if that tickles your fancy - alongside bar snacks.
Friendly staff, always on hand for service, and you're very rarely waiting too long to be served. The only time I did wait a while for service was when it was a packed pub for Super Sunday football - ordered 2 pints, and the manager apologised for making me wait, and didn't charge me - 2 beers on the house!
Incredible!
Dog friendly, kid friendly (has board games) - and every single one of the locals are friendly too!
They even have a fishmonger that pops in every Sunday evening around 6ish selling fresh small-potted seafood that you're allowed to eat in the pub. Lovely fella he is too!
Overall, one of the better pubs in the local area and honestly one of the cleanest too - including the gents toilets!
Glad we've got a pub like this locally as this kind of pub is the type that we're losing, daily.
