About This Pub
Ah, the Wig & Pen – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem in Norwich city centre, doesn't it? I love how it's tucked away near the cathedral, making it ideal for a relaxed afternoon on the sun terrace with a cold pint or a hearty meal. The food really stands out; they've got this fantastic mix of traditional pub grub and a few innovative twists, all made with fresh, local ingredients that leave you feeling satisfied. Whether it's their beef and ale pie or those loaded nachos, it's clear the chefs put in the effort, and it's dog-friendly too, which is a lovely touch for anyone popping in with their pooch. The staff are mostly spot on, friendly and helpful, especially if you're with a group or have kids in tow. But, to be fair, I've heard a couple of stories about service not being as cheerful as it could be – like someone getting a bit of a telling-off at the door – so it might not be perfect every time. Overall, though, it's a solid choice for a good night out, and I'd say it's worth giving it a go if you're in the area, just keep an eye on those opening hours to avoid any surprises.

A great selection of drinks, including proper real ales, perfect for unwinding after a long day.
Cons
-
There have been a few instances where service wasn't up to scratch, like one chap mentioning being rudely shouted at by staff, which could put a dampener on your visit.
-
The pub seems to have variable opening times, and it's closed one day a week, so it's worth checking ahead if you're planning a trip.

Me and my family were planning on coming in for fathers day this weekend. We got as far the door and I stopped to let a couple out while my parents looked at the menu. At this point I had stepped to one side just to be rudely yelled at my a male wait staff working that day because apparently I was in the door frame, even though I had stepped to one side to let a couple out and he could clearly move passed me. I was so disgusted by his attitude towards myself that you managed to loose my business that day. If the rude member of staff thought I may be in his way then all he needed to do was to politely ask me to move.
Really lovely service. Accommodated my large group at short notice as they fortunately had a table. Looked after us well. Brought a booster seat for my baby. Our out of town guests were really happy with the visit too
We had a great time here, The food was great and freshly cooked, the menu was a good pub style menu (check their website for the menu). The bar staff were friendly and helpful. When it's nice there is a seating area outside at the back of the pub.
Fantastic pub! We enjoyed a spectacular Beef & Ale Pie ( which we will no doubt return for) the most delicious gravy ever plus the nachos was well enjoyed too. Our dog Neville was also warmly welcomed with treats & a bowl of water on arrival - Dog friendly!! We will definitely be back!!
The Ale and GnT hit the spot too 😊
Argyle on tour !! 9hrs to get here by train but a 20 minute walk to this pub and with a nice real ale in my hand it mattered not. Nice bar staff....very friendly and even guided me to a few more pubs on the way back to Carrow Road stadium. Lovely old traditional pub steeped in history. Sadly, another bad day for Argyle.....we got stuffed 6 - 1. Ah well....only another 9hrs to get home....
