About This Pub

Ah, The Glass House – it's one of those reliable Wetherspoon spots that I've popped into a few times in Norwich, and it's got that easy-going charm that makes you feel right at home. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the drinks are spot on for value, with pints like Stella coming in cheap and cheerful, perfect for a laid-back evening. The atmosphere really picks up when it's busy, drawing in a nice mix of people that keeps things interesting without feeling overwhelming. Plus, there's loads of space with outdoor seating overlooking the streets, which is brilliant on a sunny day, and they've thought about everyone with smoking and non-smoking areas. On the flip side, it's not all smooth sailing; the food can be a bit of a letdown sometimes, like that steak and ale pie that one person raved about being tiny and poorly done, though kudos to the manager for stepping in with a refund. Overall, it's consistently inconsistent, as someone put it, which means you might have a top-notch visit or one that's just okay, but that's part of the fun if you're up for a bit of an adventure. If you're heading out for a pint and don't mind the occasional hiccup, it's definitely worth a go – just keep expectations realistic and maybe stick to the drinks menu for the best bet.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The drinks are really affordable, which makes it a great spot for a casual night out without breaking the bank.
  • It's got a fantastic atmosphere when it gets busy, with a mixed crowd that keeps things lively and welcoming.
  • The pub has plenty of space, including a lovely outside seating area and a beer garden with options for smokers and non-smokers.
  • The staff are generally helpful and quick to sort out any issues, like offering refunds for dodgy food, which shows they care about a good experience.
  • The interior has a stylish, throwback vibe with clean tables and comfy seating, making it a comfortable place to relax with a pint.
Cons
  • Food quality can be hit or miss – some meals turn out underwhelming, like tiny portions or dishes that aren't cooked properly.
  • It's a bit of a gamble sometimes; things can be inconsistently good or bad, so you never quite know what you're in for.
  • The place can get pretty crowded at peak times, which might make it harder to find a quiet spot or get served quickly.
  • While the drinks are cheap, that doesn't always translate to the food, and a few folks have mentioned disappointing experiences there.

New on the menu steak and ale pie with mash and peas. Well the pie was size of small yoghurt pot.The mash was over microwaved and burnt. Peas where cold. Opened the pie up must have been a spoonful of gravy in it no steak or nothing. The manageress was lovely gave us a refund and was shocked how low quality it was. Shame was really looking forward to it

It's a lovely big pub. It has a smoking and non-smoking beer garden. Car park at rear, public car park. Drinks are comparatively cheap for Norwich. Gets busy sometimes, good atmosphere when it is busy though. Benefits from a mixed clientele.

This was a superb pub for drinking, with a stylish throwback interior! The outside seating is lovely overlooking the streets of norwich, counter is well presented too. I had a pint of Stella Artois, appreciated the clean table and comfy seating!

Update as I passed through the other day. Nothing has changed, everything is still completely mad, but inconsistently mad, which is actually quite good. The Glass House is like a roulette wheel because you never, ever know what you're going to get. It's consistently inconsistent but the staff are excellent and it's gargantuan layout somehow seems awkward to navigate. The garden seems to get the sun for about 30 minutes a day somehow and always seems to be cold. The bar is huge, but the queue always seems to be three deep. Food arrives quickly but it's seldom what you ordered and sometimes this is good and sometimes this is bad. Yesterday I got a lemon and herb chicken instead of a chargrilled chicken with gravy and mash and peas. The mixture of flavours was particularly unique and one I'm only ever bound to encounter again at the glasshouse. Still, the pints are cheap and the app works well and just about everyone in the world is here for ages, because no one can afford to session drink in any other pubs any more. Notice how the food prices are creeping up though? If its going to serve 'cheap and cheerful, no-frills slush' then I'd like that to be reflected in the price. £14 for a lemon and herb and gravy and mash combo just isn't going to cut it.

A very nice JD Wetherspoon's on two levels. No problems to try an ale before you buy. Not as busy as The Bell hotel, especially outside area, but plenty of space for privacy. Another good JDW
